BREAKDOWN
THE BOSTON PROJECT: PROJECT RESILIENCE
About the Show:
We Bostonians have always been known for our bold and determined nature, but this past year has presented challenges that have tested even the toughest among us. To celebrate the distinct, enduring spirit of this great city, SpeakEasy is commissioning a special edition of the company’s new works initiative, The Boston Project. Five Boston playwrights will be commissioned to each write a brand-new, site-specific, ten-minute play that explores and celebrates the resilience that guides us through each day.
Each actor will perform one 10-minute monologue, filmed in-person, on-location in Boston. COVID-safety protocols will be enforced.
We are looking for actors to portray characters (currently in development) that match these descriptions:
CHARACTER 1 – A transmasculine person of color (20s-30s). Transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming actors particularly encouraged to submit.
CHARACTER 2 – An Asian American Pacific Islander (ideally Filipino), any gender, early 30’s to early 60’s
CHARACTER 3 – An Eastern European woman who identifies as disabled (20s-30s).
Additional characters (roles already cast)
CHARACTER 4 – A Black female in her 60s.
CHARACTER 5 – A woman in her mid to late 20s. Any ethnicity.
CHARACTER 6 – A woman from Nicaragua in her late 50s, early 60s.
Actors of color are strongly encouraged to audition, and all roles are open to inclusive casting. SpeakEasy Stage Company shall conduct all auditions/interviews in a manner that promotes fair consideration to persons of all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, ages, and ability statuses.
