SEEKING

Currently seeking actor-singers for new musical Steerage, which will have a production in February through the Playwriting MFA program at Columbia University School of the Arts. The musical follows four immigrants voyaging to America on a Red Star Line ship in 1904, as well as their descendants traveling on a cruise ship in 2004. Performers should be comfortable with classic musical theatre singing (Rodgers and Hammerstein, Golden Age of Broadway, etc).

BREAKDOWN

SHPRINTZEL/SALLY: Woman, 20s, soprano. SHPRINTZEL is an Eastern European immigrant escaping a dark past; SALLY is a recent college grad figuring her life out. Both are headstrong and sometimes combative, with a deep connection to family. Ability to do an Eastern European accent is a plus.

TZOFI/JENNA: Woman, 20s, mezzo. TZOFI is an Eastern European immigrant, a palm reader, and an occasional thief. Considered a witch by many in her old village. JENNA is a reporter with ulterior motives. Both are smart and wily. Strong comic timing. Ability to do an Eastern European accent is a plus.

BOVE/DARIO: Man, 20s-30s, bari/tenor. BOVE is an Italian immigrant conning his way to America. DARIO is an aspiring actor working on a cruise liner. Both are passionate, charming, and scheming. Seeking Latinx actors in particular; must speak Spanish. Ability to do an Italian accent is a plus.

LEM/GENE: Man, 20s-30s, bari/tenor. LEM is a Hungarian immigrant coming to America to join the socialist movement in NYC. GENE is a Republican congressman keeping a few secrets. Both are principled, a little arrogant, and insecure. Seeking Latinx actors in particular; must speak Spanish. Ability to do an Eastern European accent is a plus.

VANDENWALL/DELACROIX: Man, 20s-40s bass/baritone. MR. VANDENWALL is a rich Robber Baron at the turn of the 20th century. MR. DELACROIX is a rich cruise line owner in 2004. Both are boastful, greedy, and gregarious.
