USNAVI DE LA VEGA (He/Him, Latine, 20-29) Energetic owner of De La Vega Bodega who dreams of making enough money to go back home to the Dominican Republic. He is the narrator of our story. Blue Collar. An excellent actor and rapper. Tenor-Bari. A2-A4.

NINA ROSARIO (She/Her, Latine, 18-25) First generation Puerto Rican-American. Freshman at Stanford. Intelligent, hard-working, and driven. Trying to make her family proud while navigating adulthood. A beacon of hope and inspiration to all who know her; she represents the opportunity outside of “the heights.” Mezzo-Soprano with a strong belt/mix. F3-F5.

KEVIN ROSARIO (He/Him, Latine, 40-50) Hard working and proud father of Nina - owner of Rosario’s Car Service. He’s a traditionalist. Bari-Tenor. A2-F4.

CAMILA ROSARIO (She/Her, Latine, 40-50) Hard working, wise and proud mother of Nina - co-owner of Rosario’s Car Service. She’s a traditionalist and very active in the community. Alto. G3-E5.

BENNY (He/Him, Black, 20-29) An employee of Rosario’s who is an aspiring business man trying to rise from his station in life. Funny and full of personality. Great singer with pop/hip-hop flare. Tenor. B2-A4

VANESSA (She/Her, Latine, 18-29) A shampoo girl at Daniela’s Salon. Beautiful, vivacious, driven and intelligent with a strong sense of humor. She wants to get out of the barrio. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong belt. F#3 – F5.

SONNY (He/Him, Latine, 18+ to play late teens) Usnavi’s cousin. Streetwise yet a goofball. Charming and adorable, he feigns a persona of perceived cool masculinity. He is someone that needs guidance or risks ending up on the street. Strong comedic timing. Excellent rapper. Tenor. D3 – B4.

ABUELA CLAUDIA (She/Her, Latine, 50-70) Raised Usnavi though not his blood grandmother. Loving matriarch for the entire community. Deeply loving and unwaveringly optimistic with a surprising sense of humor. Full of wisdom, life experience, memories and years of hard work. Excellent singer. Spanish speaking a plus. Alto with a strong belt. Eb3 – E5.

DANIELA (She/Her, Latine, 30-39) Owner of Daniela’s Salon. Brash, funny, and outspoken. Meticulous about her physical appearance. the gossip queen of the neighborhood. Spanish speaker. Excellent singer, good mover with strong comedic timing. Alto Belter. F4 – E5.

CARLA (She/Her, Latine, 20-29) Works at the salon. Daniela’s sidekick. Sweet and likeable. Strong in her faith, she is a pure, sweet, innocent, and loving woman who is devoted to her family and friends though she is easily taken advantage of because of her naivety. Strong comedic timing. Alto Belter. F3 – E5.

GRAFFITI PETE (He/Him, They/Them, Any Ethnicity, 18+ to play late teens – 20s) Streetwise, self-made artist. Sidekick to Sonny. Excellent Hip-hop dancer with Salsa.

PIRAGUA GUY (He/Him, Latine, 30-45) He diligently sells piraguas (flavored ice shavings) in the Heights to earn a living. He represents a rhythm of the islands in the big city. Proficiency with Spanish. Bright, soaring tenor. D3 – A4.

ENSEMBLE SINGERS (He/Him/She/Her/They/Them, Any Ethnicity, 20-50) Interesting, diverse and well‐rounded people of the community. All shapes and sizes. We would like to see more than just great singers. Bring your strength, your vulnerability, your history, your sass, your humor and your love and pride from your ancestors. Challenging part singing.

LARRY (He/Him, Any Ethnicity, Late 20s – mid 30s) Zach’s assistant. Masculine and efficient. An accomplished dancer. ROLE IS CAST.

MIKE (He/Him, Any Ethnicity, Mid 20s) Accomplished Italian American dancer who sings well. Athletic and masculine with a street- wise charm. Tenor. Acrobatics a plus. ROLE IS CAST.

RICHIE (He/Him, Black, Mid 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings well. Extremely energetic. Tenor. Flexibility and basic Acrobatic skills a plus. ROLE IS CAST.

PAUL (He/Him, Latine, Mid 20s – 30s) Accomplished actor who dances well. Slight and sensitive with a natural grace. Tenor.

MARK (He/Him, Any Ethnicity, Late teens – early 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings well. The youngest male on the line. Boyish and likeable.

GREG (He/Him, Any Ethnicity, Late 20s – Early 30s) Accomplished dancer who sings. Highly sophisticated, wry and intelligent with a decidedly wicked wit. Out and proud. ROLE IS CAST.

CASSIE (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Early – Mid 30s) Dynamic “Star” dancer who sings extremely well. Ex-lover of Zach seeking to restart her career. Strong and charismatic actress. Soprano. ROLE IS CAST.

SHEILA (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Early – Mid 30s) Accomplished actress who dances well. Beautiful showgirl with a killer body and an even more killer wit. Alto. ROLE IS CAST.

VAL (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Mid – Late 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings well. Smart, sassy, and immensely sure of herself with a killer body; yet the girl next door. Mezzo.

DIANA (She/Her, Latine, Mid – Late 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings well. Warm, energetic, and extremely likeable. Mezzo. ROLE IS CAST.

JUDY (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Mid 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings well. Energetic, quirky, and decidedly offbeat. Prefer 5’7 and up. Soprano. ROLE IS CAST.

KRISTINE (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Mid 20s) Accomplished dancer/actress who sings. Married to Al. Quirky, comedic sensibility. Exhibits an extreme amount of nervous energy. Alto. ROLE IS CAST.

MAGGIE (She/Her, Any Ethnicity, Mid 20s) Accomplished dancer who sings very well. Likeable girl next door; shy and sensitive. Soprano with a solid mix/belt to E. ROLE IS CAST.

DON (He/Him, Any Ethnicity, Late 20’s) Ladies’ man, married, and into cars, money, and women. Very sure of himself. All American guy. Cocky because he has worked with Zach before. From Kansas City. ROLE IS CAST.

CONNIE (She/Her, AAPI, 20’s) Experienced dancer. Married. Petite. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Born in Chinatown. Believably is 4’10”.
