Synopsis: SOUTH PACIFIC follows the lives of U.S. military men, nurses and residents of a Polynesian island during World War II, based on James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific and featuring a score by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Ensign Nellie Forbush - Female identifying. 21-30 / Mezzo (a – d’). A self-described “Hick”, feisty but somewhat naïve young nurse from Arkansas. Something of a tomboy with an optimistic outlook. Some dancing required.

Emile De Becque - Male identifying. 40 – 50 / Baritone (a – e’). A mature, sophisticated, romantic, wealthy French planter. French accent required.

Lt. Joseph Cable - Male identifying. 22 – 33 Tenor (d – g’). A handsome and intelligent Lieutenant with a bright future in the US Navy.

Luther Billis - Male identifying. 25 - 35 / Baritone (g – g’). A lovable “wheeler-dealer” character who provides his fellow Marines with much needed comic relief. Does not understand boundaries.

Bloody Mary - Female identifying. 40-55 / Mezzo (g – f’). A shrewd merchant Tonkinese native to the island, who makes a fortune from the sailors. Full of local character. Mother of Liat.

Liat - Female identifying. 14 - 22 / Soprano. A beautiful Tonkinese native girl who steals the heart of Joe Cable. Bloody Mary’s daughter. Dancer.

Captain George Brackett - Male identifying. 40 – 55 / Spoken. Commanding Officer on the island. Authority figure with a soft side.

Commander William Harbison - Male identifying. 28 – 45 / Spoken. Brackett’s right hand man. Can be hot- headed, especially where Billis is concerned

Ngana - Female identifying. 8 – 14 / Mezzo. Emile’s half-Polynesian daughter

Jerome - Male identifying. 7-12 / Tenor. Emile’s half-Polynesian son
