Prepare either a Short comedic Monologue or Short Song or 1 minute monologue and 16 bars of a song. Accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume.

Short North Stage 2019-20 Season


SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER:
Rehearsals Begin November 5, 2019 Runs November 29- December 29, 2019, Performance Thurs-Sat at 8pm, Sat/Sun at 3pm

Seeking:
Tony Manero (20s)- Male. Rock Tenor. Suave Italian dancer from Bay Ridge. A working-class young man who spends his weekends dancing and drinking at a local Brooklyn discothèque.

The following roles are already CAST

Stephanie Mangano (CAST) (Principal – Mezzo with belt to D) 20, extremely beautiful Brooklyn Italian. Projects overconfidence and pretension but is really a simple girl trying to be more than what she came from. Must be genuinely likable. Believable Brooklyn accent. Killer voice and very strong dancer.

Annette (CAST) (Principal – Mezzo with belt to Eb) 18-20, attractive Brooklyn. Innocent, insecure, needy. She tries to mask her vulnerability with toughness. Believable Brooklyn accent. Strong dancer with show-stopping voice.

Bobby C. (CAST) (Principal – Tenor to Ab) 18-20, awkward Brooklyn Italian. One of “the Faces” (Tony’s gang). Insecure and needy. A troubled soul who tries too hard. Believable Brooklyn accent, strong mover with a show-stopping
pop voice.

Frank Jr. (CAST)(Principal- Tenor to Ab) 25-30. Tony’s brother. Brooklyn Italian genuine, paternal, spiritual energy. Believable Brooklyn accent, strong mover with a strong pop/rock voice.

Monty / Frank Sr. (CAST)(Supporting – Bari/Tenor to G w/strong falsetto) 40-60, versatile actor/singer/dancer to play two roles. Monty- handsome, womanizing, highenergy, DJ with a genuinely likable nod to 60’s free-spirited sexuality. Frank Sr.- Tony’s Brooklyn Italian, iron-fisted father who leads with bloated pride in the face of unemployment.

Flo Manero (CAST) (Supporting – Mezzo) 40-60, Tony’s Brooklyn Italian mother. Opinionated, devout Catholic. Movement a plus. Double J. (CAST) (Featured- Bari/Tenor) 18-25, (Tony cover) handsome Brooklyn Italian lady’s man. One of “the Faces” (Tony’s gang). Genuinely tough guy, cocky, a criminal in the making. Believable Brooklyn accent. Strong
dancer with a good pop voice.

Gus (CAST) (Featured – Bari/Tenor) 18-25, (Bobby C cover) cute Brooklyn Italian. One of “the Faces” (Tony’s gang). Bumbling klutz, a little befuddled. A follower. Believable Brooklyn accent. Strong dancer with good pop
voice.

Ralph D (20s) Male. African American, Jackie’s sponsor, starting a nutritional beverage company, Victoria’s husband.

Cousin Julio (20-30s) Male. Puerto Rican, Jackie’s cousin, has a wife, but is often considered effeminate.

Seeking

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (20-30) Male, – Tenor/Baritone Vocal range: Bb one octave below middle C to G above middle. Brilliant brain surgeon, professor and grandson of mad scientist Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein.

Frau Blücher (30-50), Vocal range: E below middle C to C an octave above middle C. Intense, stern housekeeper of Frankenstein estate. Former lover of Victor Frankenstein.

The following roles already CAST:

The Monster (CAST) (age indeterminate), Male, Vocal range: Db one octave below middle C to Bb, above middle C. Played by a bigger man – the bigger the better. The misunderstood creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Knowledge of tap dancing a plus.

Inspector Hans Kemp/ Blind Hermit CAST (30-50) Inspector: Male, Vocal range: A an octave below middle C to F above middle C. Head of the police in Transylvania, with a wooden arm and leg. Justice-driven.
Blind Hermit: Lonely, poor, blind town hermit longing for a friend.

Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein (CAST) (40-50) Male, Vocal range: C# below middle C to F above middle C. Frederick’s infamous grandfather.

Ziggy (18-30) (CAST) Male, Vocal range: D an octave below middle C to Eb above middle C. Wellintentioned village idiot.

Ensemble (CAST): (Various Ages) Male/Female, Various Vocal Range. This group will portray gravediggers, villagers, Mr. Hilltop, medical students, passengers, mad scientists and various supporting roles. Dance experience, particularly tap, is a plus.

Seeking

Dotty/Mrs. Clackett (45-60) Female. Dotty (offstage) is a veteran American actress who has put up her life savings to mount Nothing On, forgetful, dating Garry, though she attempts to make him jealous by meeting with Freddy. Mrs. Clackett (onstage) is a cockney housekeeper for the Brent's home in England, hospitable though slow.

The following roles are already CAST:

Brooke/Vicki (20-29) CAST Female. Brooke (offstage) is young inexperienced American actress, attractive with an excellent figure, will spend much time in only bra and panties, one-third of a Lloyd-Poppy-Brooke love triangle; Vicki (onstage) is an English woman who works for Inland Revenue and is trying to woo Roger.

Belinda/Flavia (30-45) CAST Female. Belinda (offstage) is cheerful and sensible, a reliable American actress, may have feelings for Freddy; Flavia Brent (onstage) is Phillip Brent's English wife, dependable though not one for household duties.

Poppy Norton-Taylor CAST (25-35) Female. American assistant stage manager, emotional and oversensitive, envious of Brooke whom she understudies, carrying Lloyd's child (not physically evident), one third of a Lloyd-Poppy-Brooke love triangle.

Garry Lejeune/Roger Tramplemain CAST (30-49) Male. Garry (offstage) is an American actor who never finishes a sentence, dating Dotty, easily fired up, unjustifiably jealous of Frederick believing that Dotty was cheating on him with Freddy. Roger (onstage) is an English Real estate agent who is attempting to rent Flavia and Phillip's home, but uses it for his own personal benefit.

Fredrick Fellow/Phillip Brent/Sheikh CAST (40-49) Male. Freddy (offstage) is an American actor with a serious fear of violence and blood, prone to nosebleeds, often questions the meaning of his lines and moves, must be able to jump up a flight of stairs with his pants around his ankles; Phillip Brent (onstage) is an Englishman who lives out of the country with his wife Flavia to avoid paying taxes, enters the country knowing that if he is caught by Inland Revenue he will lose most of the year's income; Sheikh (onstage) is Middle-Eastern, interested in renting Flavia and Phillip's home, he is the spitting image of Phillip.

Selsdon Mowbray/Burglar CAST (65+) Male. Selsdon Mowbray (offstage) is an elderly, alcoholic Englishman who hides his bottles all over the theater, if he is not in sight while rehearsing the stage crew must find him before he passes out, is hard of hearing when he wants to be; Burglar (onstage) is an old Cockney man in his seventies breaking into the Brent's home.
