VENUS IN FUR
THOMAS
Male. mid 30’s – early 50’s. Any ethnicity. Writer/Director of Venus In Fur, a new play based on the book by the same name, that introduced the concepts of sadism and masochism to the world. Thomas is a veteran playwright and a first time director who is struggling to find the just the right actress to play Vanda, his leading lady. Frustrated by the process and a bit jaded by the industry, meeting Vanda awakens something inside of him. Thomas quickly finds himself tightly woven into her web of seduction – an experience that is terrifying, thrilling and very erotic.
VANDA
Female. 20’s – early 30’s. Any ethnicity. Extremely attractive, sexy and captivating. Immediately commands any room she enters. A seemingly desperate out of work actress. Vanda is well read and exceptionally savvy, and knows when to play dumb. She does what it takes to get the role while never revealing her true intention. An extraordinary seductress.
IN THE TIME OF THE BUTTERFLIES

MINERVA – Latina. Plays from ages 12 – 34. The most spirited of the sisters. Minerva is the most heavily involved in the movement. She is young and beautiful and the object of El Jefe’s affection which is the start of many of the problems for the Mirabal family. She is the one that is called La Mariposa.
PATRIA – Latina. The oldest of the Mirabal Sisters. Plays ages 22 – 36. Has a good head on her shoulders and always wants to do the right thing. Often conflicted on just what the right thing is. She is the last to join her sisters in the movement.
MARIA TERESA “MATE” (pronounced mah-tay) - Latina. The youngest of the Mirabal sisters. Mate is in a hurry to grow up and be able to do all of the things the older girls can do, especially when it comes to fighting for the freedom of her people. She becomes Minerva’s strongest comrade on the flight of La Mariposa.
AMERICAN WOMAN – Latina. 20’s. A fiction writer of Dominican descent living in New York City, present day. Dede is telling the American Woman her sisters’ story. May be played by the same actor playing Young Dede.

ROTHKO - Famed American artist, Mark Rothko. Caucasian. 50’s. An eccentric painter who is set in his ways and no commissioned amount of money will change that – until, that is, Ken walks into (and out of) his life and forces Rothko to rethink his circumstances.
KEN - Male. 20’s. Any ethnicity. Rothko’s new assistant. Young, smart and ambitious.
