SEEKING
THE LECTURER – (tenor, male 30's - 50's) An authority figure who warns parents of the dangers of "Reefer Madness" by mounting a live musical presentation. An accomplished liar. Appealing and approachable in demeanor, with a hidden perversion. The Lecturer plays numerous other roles in his presentation: Satan and FDR notably. Needs stature, warmth and wit.
JIMMY HARPER – (late teens to early 20s, tenor) A fine, upstanding American boy -- until he falls victim to the demon weed. Naïve, sweet and a little thick. Needs to possess old school charm and innocence with killer comedic instincts.
MARY LANE - (late teens to early 20s, soprano with a big, wide belt) A wholesome high-schooler -- until the DEMON WEED comes between her and her reefer-addled sweetheart. Steadfastly devoted and innocent until her first puff of reefer unleashes a dangerous sexuality. Surprisingly tough and accustomed to getting what she wants. A sweet youthful appeal with access to savvy comedic chops.
MAE - (alto, high belt late 20's - 40's) A fallen woman, the mistress of the Reefer Den.
She was once an honorable everyday woman until she fell prey to a handsome face and a smoldering stick of Pure Evil. She has a hidden morality underneath a seemingly hardened exterior. Big comedic chops with huge vocal prowess.
JACK/JESUS - (tenor, power rock voice) Jack is a menace in a sexy package -- a flashy, charismatic pusher of reefer on unsuspecting teenagers. Very 1930's B-movie feel. This actor also plays an ego-centric Jesus Christ in a flashy Vegas-style production number.
SALLY - (20's, High belt to F with a soprano extension, dancing required) A dame with a real bawdy vibe; she’s another victim of the demon weed. Every parent’s worst nightmare, lives her life looking for her next fix and is very free with her sexuality and morality. An old school vampiness and comedy needed.
RALPH – (30’s, tenor) A reefer fiend, a junkie who will do anything to get his next fix. His soiled, tattered fraternity sweater and thirtysomething age indicate it’s been a long time since he attended a class -- or changed his clothes. Character actor.
