SEEKING

Equity Actors for the 2020 Season - actors who can be company members by tracking through as many shows as possible.

All SM/ASM positions have been filled.


PREPARATION

The season consists of musicals and comedies. Prepare a short song and a short comic monologue. If you play an instrument that is featured in one of our productions - show us that you can play. Bring picture and resume.

ANGELA – A housewife from Waxahachie, TX, with six kids and a husband named Bubba. She has an outrageous sense of humor and a fiercely independent streak.

DARLENE – Young, innocent and from the Mississippi Delta, she is pretty, sweet and simple. Basic acoustic guitar and clogging a plus.

SUELLEN – A twice-divorced “citified” country girl working as a secretary in Los Angeles, she is smart, attractive and frustrated with her life. Clogging a plus.

POPCORN FALLS

The sleepy town of Popcorn Falls is forced into bankruptcy when a neighboring town threatens to turn them into a sewage treatment plant. Their only hope to survive is to win a grant by opening a theater. Two actors play over 20 roles.

ACTOR 1 – Plays multiple characters that are male, any ethnicity. Mid 30s – early 50s.
Primary character is MR. TRUNDLE – A sincere man with a big heart. The new mayor. Recently divorced and recovered alcoholic. Thought he could land in a tiny little town to get his act together. Also plays: HANS, a German foreign exchange student who now works at the local funeral home and MR. UPMALL, an octogenarian who has always dreamed of being onstage among others.

ACTOR 2 – Plays multiple characters that are male, any ethnicity. Mid 30s – early 50s.
Mostly plays JOE, the town custodial engineer. Joe is nervous because his wife is pregnant with their third set of twins . ACTOR 2 also plays: AUSTIN, the not-very-bright-but-eager-to-please sheriff. MS. PARKER, the dramatictown librarian. Amanda Wingfield like. MRS. STEPP, the oversexed, hardboiled, middle school teacher. FLOYD, the owner of the lumberyard who lost his arm in a strange accident that involved a telephone pole and a Mexican stripper. BECKY, a very sweet but very lost soul, who just moved back home among others.

ABBY BINDER – Female, 60-89 she is a blunt, no-nonsense, uses her sharp humor to keep people from getting close; her past makes her bitter; roommates with Marilyn; wants the room to herself and will get it by any means necessary.

MARILYN DUNNE – Female, 60-89 is very upbeat. Chipper and warm positive person. Talks a lot. BENJAMIN/LEWIS/CLOWN – Male, 30-49 Benjamin: The estranged son of Abby; shy; a former addict who has relapsed many times; he is trying to make amends with his mother. Lewis: Marilyn's son, who is also a skydiving instructor; and lively. Clown: An actor in a haunted house who plays an evil clown that tries to steal and eat a baby.

SCOTTY – Male, 20-39 Very dedicated aide caring for his senior citizen charges; an aspiring actor;

COLLEEN/WOMAN IN WHITE – Female, 30-49, Colleen is the sunny daughter of Marilyn and wife of Derek. Woman in White: An actress in a haunted house who is trying to save her baby from the Clown.

DEREK/ZOMBIE BUTLER?MASKED MAN – Male, 30-49. Derek: Colleen's other half and somewhat her opposite in personality. Butler: An actor who is leading the haunted house tour. Also plays Masked Man.

This is the sequel to Smoke on the Mountain, set in rural North Carolina in 1941. All cast must be able to sing and play. Bluegrass/folk/gospel/musical theatre styles. String instruments such as banjo, guitar, mandolin or ukulele. Piano. Fiddle. Standup bass
