MAGIC THEATRE 2020-2021 SEASON - EQUITY VIDEO SUBMISSIONS

Bay Area Theatre Minimum - $664/wk

SEEKING

Actors for Magic Theatre’s 2020-2021 season: The Virgin Play Festival; Monument, or Four Sisters: A Sloth Play by Sam Chanse; The Kind Ones by Miranda Rose Hall; and The Broken Machine by Liz Duffy Adams. Actors of all ethnicities, abilities and types encouraged to apply. Strong preference for Bay Area actors.

INSTRUCTIONS

Please prepare one monologue or two contemporary contrasting monologues of your choice for a total of three minutes. Please attach a copy of your headshot and resume to the body of the email, along with the video of the audition. Reciept will be confirmed within 2 business days.

Plays are yet to be finalized, 50+ roles for workshops and readings


MONUMENT, OR FOUR SISTERS: A SLOTH PLAY


AMY: Asian American. The eldest/first sister. A marine biologist who studies coral. Late 30s/early 40s. Also plays CESAR an anthropomorphic cartoon male sloth.

CONSTANCE: Asian American. The younger middle/third sister. Works in television. Mid-30s. Also plays JULIO an anthropomorphic cartoon male sloth.

MAC: Asian American. The youngest/fourth sister. Has somewhat recently left a job. Mid-30s. Also plays MIGUEL an anthropomorphic cartoon male sloth

LINA: Asian American The elder middle/second sister. Absent. Also plays MAGDALENA An anthropomorphic cartoon female sloth and MEGATHERIA A now extinct sloth the size of an elephant.

THE KIND ONES


FITZ: a transman, 30s, originally from Washington, barista, white

APRIL: a cis-woman, 30s, Nellie's neighbor.

*The role of NELLIE has been precast.

THE BROKEN MACHINE

THE BROKEN MACHINE aka MAC: 40+ a woman with a broken arm in a makeshift splint and sling. A force of nature with a wicked sense of humor. Indomitable but not self aware.

GRAY: a gray fox, but not evidently so, played by a man, seems like someone who has been living rough

JANE: a young woman wearing a rural sheriff’s uniform. grey, green, or tan, anything but police blue . A leader.

JOE: a young man, same uniform, Trying his best. Bad at sarcasm.

THE PSYCHOPOMP: a gender queer teenager, a guide of souls to the place of the dead. Sassy, impatient, clever.
