PREPARATION

Those auditioning should prepare one of the following:
● (1) comedic monologue

● (2) 32-bar cuts of a musical theatre song

● (1) monologue & (1) 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song
Prepared material should not exceed (2) minutes in length.
Those auditioning with a musical theatre cut should bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Those interested in Man of La Mancha are encouraged to accompany themselves. Instruments will not be provided in the room.

Based on real-life events, WHAT WE LEAVE BEHINDis a courageous, one-woman musical that examines what it means to live a life reshaped by illness. Deeply intimate with a hauntingly melodic score, this funny, touching story sheds light on how to live a life forever altered by illness, and how to embrace a new self when the once familiar parts of life fall behind.

JENNY (female) The one-person musical shifts in time to before, during, and after Jenny’s diagnoses, and the performer must portray ages of 25 to 45. Wide emotional range required. Comfortable singing musical theatre, jazz, pop, and country. Vocal part: Mezzo: strong belt and mix needed

DESCRIPTION: “Miguel de Cervantes, aging and an utter failure in his varied careers as playwright, poet and tax collector, sits in a Seville dungeon with his manservant, awaiting trial by the Spanish Inquisition for an offense against the Church. The other prisoners set up a mock trial: if Cervantes is found guilty, he will hand over all his possessions. Cervantes agrees to do so, and offers his defense in the form of a play. Producing a makeup kit, he transforms himself
into an old man who calls himself Don Quixote de La Mancha.” - The Musical Company LDTC’s production will be performed by (8) actor/musicians. Character assignments may change and most actors will need to be instrumentalists, as well. Specific instrument assignments are TBD. Accepted instruments are: guitar (acoustic, mandolin, etc), strings (cello, bass, violin, viola, etc)

MIGUEL DE CERVANTES (30s-60s, male) our Don Quixote, the “foolish knight”. A tall, gaunt, eccentric but charismatic man.
Vocal part: heroic tenor/high Baritone

SANCHO (20s-50s, male) manservant to Cervantes and loyal sidekick to Don Quixote. Vocal part: Tenor. Must sing well, but may have comic voice

ALDONZA (20s-50s, female) a wild and lusty woman who has developed a jaded world-view. A survivor with a noble heart. Vocal part: Mezzo-Soprano

INNKEEPER (30s-60s, male) a gentle giant. Husband to Maria. This role may portray additional supporting characters.

DR. CARRASCO (30s-60s, male) Antonia’s fiance and foil to Don Quixote. Insists our foolish knight is mad and must be treated. This role may portray additional supporting characters.

MARIA (20s-60s, female) The Innkeeper’s wife. This role may portray additional supporting female characters

GOVERNOR (30s-50s) a large and powerful man. Leader of the inmate society in the prison. This role may portray additional supporting characters.

DESCRIPTION: The sleepy town of Popcorn Falls is forced into bankruptcy when a neighboring town threatens to turn them into a sewage treatment plant. Their only hope - open a theatre! Two actors play over twenty roles in a world of farce, love and deception, proving once and for all that art can save the world.

ACTOR TRACK 1 (20s-50s, male) primarily portrays Mr. Trundle, the sincere, people-pleasing new mayor of Popcorn Falls. Also portrays: Hans, a German exchange student; Mr. Upmall, the oldest man in Popcorn Falls, and many others.

ACTOR TRACK 2 (20s-50s, male) primarily portrays the nervous janitor, Mr. Trundle’s co-conspirator in their quest to save Popcorn Falls from ruin. Also portrays: Pastor Pete; Flloyd, the one armed lumber yard owner; Becky a sweet lost soul newly returned to town, and many others.

CHRISTINE EVANS (20’s-40s) the new Director of Pre-Primary Admissions at Edgely Preparatory Academy. Agreeable and determined, though she is completely overwhelmed by the barrage of calls she receives on her first day. The same actor also portrays all of the callers. Strong character actor possessing a honed repertoire of dialects.

DESCRIPTION: Holiday Follies is a celebrated holiday variety show featuring yuletide classics, comic interludes, and audience favorites with special guest performers to liven up the festivities.

Seeking 6 multi-talented performers of all ages to sing, share stories, and spread holiday cheer. Strong vocal and comedic ability desired.
