PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief contemporary musical theater song from the show or in the style of the show. Bring sheet music, in the correct key, as an accompanist will be provided. Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together

BREAKDOWN

Seeking the following Principal Roles

CHARLIE PRICE
20’s – early 30’s. The character is male. Handsome, leading man, privileged, but likeable — his father owns the shoe factory. Must have a great rock voice, ability to move and be a strong actor.

LOLA
30’s–40’s. African American. Character is a male. Sings C3–B4 (with one top C). Amazing vocalist specializing in pop, jazz blues and gospel styles. Strong comedic actor with enormous emotional range. Physically challenging role; requiring an incredible performer comfortable wearing everything from full glamour drag to nothing but boxing trunks.

LAUREN
20’s. Character is female. Beautiful, but quirky working class girl who works in the shoe factory. Funny and smart. Terrific comedic actress, with great singing voice.

NICOLA
20’s. Character is female. Charlie’s girlfriend since school. Sophisticated looks. She is a social climber, driven and uncompromising. She knows what she wants and goes for it. Must have a great pop voice.

DON
30’s–40’s. Character is male. Rich bari-tenor voice with a strong falsetto. Lola’s nemesis. Burly hyper-masculine bear of a factory worker. Has a menacing physicality. Least likely to be seen on a runway in kinky boots. Strong actor required.

GEORGE
40’s–50’s. Character is male. Strong actor with good singing voice. Factory Manager, keeping up traditions. Reserved and tightly wound.

YOUNG CHARLIE
Boy, to play 10 years old. Caucasian. This is Charile as a ten year old boy. Lost, quiet, reflective. Must have a great voice.

YOUNG LOLA
Boy, to play 10 years old. African-American. This is Lola as a ten year old boy who's father wants him to be a boxer, but he already knows he’s destined to wear high heels. Must have a great voice and comfortable wearing high heels during the show.
