Edna Walsh, book

GIRL (Mid-Late 20s) Direct, intelligent, no nonsense and witty. Has had to work hard at life but doesn't think she deserves any sympathy. Must play the piano and sing extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

GUY (Mid 20's - Early 30's) A struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

BILLY (Mid 30s - 40's) A large Irish man. Owner of the music store where GIRL plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of GIRL. Must sing and play guitar well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

REZA (Late 20s) A sexy, funny, smart Czech girl. Often a bit larger then life. Must sing and play violin/fiddle extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

BARUSKA (50s up). Mother of GIRL. A cool but caring Czech mother who likes a full house and full stomachs. Not many inhibitions. Must sing and play the accordion/piano well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

BANK MANAGER (30/40s) Male. Seems quite prim and proper but has a secret passion for music. Must sing and play guitar & cello well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

DA (50's up) GUY'S dad. A man of few words, but a lovely and caring father. Must play guitar, ukulele/mandolin well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

SVEJC (20's/30's) A real odd ball. Loves television and coffee. Must play guitar & drum kit extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

ANDRE (20's) Earnest and kind. An employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams. Must play guitar & bass guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

EAMON (30s/40s) The music studio manager where GUY and GIRL record their album. A tough nut to crack but eventually gives into the musician's talents. Must sing and play guitar & piano well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

EMCEE (Late 20's-30's) The emcee at a bar. A good natured ball buster. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

EX-GIRLFRIEND (20's) GUY'S ex-girlfriend who now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likeable. Must play violin extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

KEVIN ROSARIO, Nina’s father, owner of Rosario’s Car Service, Latino. Bari-Tenor to E4.

CAMILA ROSARIO, Nina’s mother, co-owner of Rosario’s Car Service, Latina. Alto G3 to B4.

BENNY, an employee of Rosario’s, African-American. Tenor to Ab4.

VANESSA, works at the salon, Latina. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong Belt to E5

SONNY, Usnavi’s cousin, Latino. Tenor to Bb4.

ABUELA CLAUDIA, raised Usnavi, though not his blood grandmother, Latina. Alto with a strong Belt to F#3.

DANIELA, owner of Daniela’s Salon, Latina. Alto G3 to C5.

Don Lockwood – Male 30-40. Ab4-G2. A suave Hollywood actor and dancer. Cosmo’s best friend and Lina’s regular co-star. Excellent Dancing and Tap skills.

Kathy Selden – Female 25-30. F5-G3. An earnest and talented actress with whit and charm. She falls in love with Don and performs as Lina’s speaking and singing voice. Excellent Dancing and Tap skills.

Cosmo Brown – Male 30-40. Ab4-C3. A wacky and playful on-set pianist for silent films. Don’s best friend and former dance partner. Excellent Dancing and Tap skills.

Lina Lamont – Female 30-35. Eb5-C4. A slow-witted silent film diva with a big personality and a harshly unpleasant voice. She is Don’s regular co-star.

R.F Simpson – Male 50-65. A successful, magnanimous, film producer. He leads the other characters in creating a new movie musical.

Roscoe Dexter – Male 40-50. A famous film director with theatrical mannerisms and tendencies. Frequently frazzled and works with Lina and Don.
