BREAKDOWN

When Jean arrives in Miami from Haiti, he’s determined to “learn America” during a cross-country journey with his pregnant wife. Decades later, his son Jonah makes the same trip in reverse, desperate to understand his father--and discover himself. Two lives unfold side-by-side in Jeff Augustin’s beautiful new play about memories real and imagined.

NOTE: Both actors should be strong harmony singers and potentially play instruments.

SEEKING:

JEAN: Haitian Man, 50’s – 60’s. A teacher of general education who came to America as a young man. Professional, charismatic, and warm, and despite suffering a tragic loss is able to maintain a sense of humor. A fearful and protective father. Seeking actors who sing and, ideally, play one or more instruments.

JONAH: Haitian American Man, early 30’s. Self described as a “bougie poor grad student.” Gay and in love with a married man. Self-deprecating with a sense of humor. Witty. Has a sense of adventure. Seeking actors who sing and, ideally, play one or more instruments.
