MRS. DICKSON: Operatic Soprano, 40s-50s. African American. Strong-willed but warm, owner and mother hen of boarding house” for colored girls”

GEORGE: Operatic Baritone. 30s. African American. Handsome. A laborer on the Panama Canal, proud, rough, impulsive.

MAYME: Operatic Mezzo. 20s-30s. African American. Prostitute and saloon singer who is Esther’s close friend.

MR. MARKS: Operatic Tenor. 30s. Romainian Jewish fabric merchant in 1905 NYC. Attractive, masculine, sensitive, sympathetic.

MRS. VAN BUREN: Operatic Lyric mezzo. 20s-30s. Caucasian. Attractive, wealthy Fifth Avenue socialite in lonely marriage who is desperate to have a child.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief operatic aria that shows off your vocal technique. Bring a headshot and resume stapled together. An accompanist will be provided.
