BREAKDOWN
Please note: This story takes place in the 1940’s. All characters should have a vaudeville style and classic sensibility.
SHYSTER/MAX/DEXTER: Male identifying, 50’s+, a song and dance man who’s past his prime but still knows enough to show the youngsters who’s boss. He went from Vaudeville to Burlesque to the pits. A former womanizer who now sees the error of his ways. Gets in over his head with a scheme to bring his family together. MUST TAP VERY WELL.
THE SEVEN TAP BROTHERS:
All are male identifying and early 20’s - early 30’s. ALL MUST TAP EXTREMELY WELL. Tricks and acrobatics are a plus.
Spring: A Gene Kelly type. The ringleader and most successful of the group. Skeptical and smart, but with a soft heart and endless charm.
Buck: The wiseguy. Always cracking jokes, even at his own expense.
Wing: The brains. Probably wears glasses. Reads books, knows physics, clueless when it comes to love.
Tip and Tap: The most hormone-driven of the group. They’ll do anything to get the girl.
Slap and Slide: Not the smartest apples in the barrel. Innocent and sweet. They may be twins, but even they aren’t sure.
APRIL: (Cast) Female identifying. The long lost Tap sister… or is she? Fantastic dancer and show-stopping singer. The feet of Anne Miller and the voice of Judy Garland. Unsure of herself at first, but the Brothers give her the confidence to carry a show.
