Harriet Bass Casting

648 Broadway #912

New York, NY 10012

Attn: HALF N HALF N HALF / AEA Submission

Sides will be used at the auditions. See note below.

About the play: Half ‘n Half ‘n Half is a farcical behind-the-scenes look at life in a repertory theatre company. A long-married acting couple plans their divorce as their twenty-something daughter and the company’s young leading man serve as both councilors and foils. Onstage scenes of three different plays cleverly reflect the offstage action taking place in the dressing rooms. Kolvenbach is known for his previous works Love Song, Fabuloso, Goldfish and Mrs. Whitney.

Please note: The playwright will be attending the auditions. If the audition sides include material from any of the “plays within the play,” the Chekhovian one should be performed without a dialect, the Coward should be performed with an upper-class British dialect for the older roles and a lower-class British dialect for the younger roles, and standard American for the Miller.

Seeking:

Loretta

Caucasian female, 50s. A regional theatre actress “of a certain age” who is still wildly attractive to both her actor husband and the younger actor touring with them. Extremely charming but with an acerbic wit. Contrary to the cliché of a “leading lady,” she is actually very grounded; not flighty or a diva. Must have the ability to play language comedy in a multiple of styles (there are three different “plays” within the play: one Chekhovian, one in the style of Noel Coward and the third “Arthur Miller” American realism) in addition to the “natural” offstage scenes.

Frances

Caucasian female, 20s. An actress in a repertory company whose divorcing parents are also in the same company. She is attractive and likable although her tongue can bite with a sharp comic edge. She has a plain speaking practical side that belies the expectation of a traditional ingénue. Must have the ability to play language comedy in a multiple of styles (there are three different “plays”

within this play: one Chekhovian, one in the style of Noel Coward and the third “Arthur Miller” American realism; not to mention the “natural” offstage scenes.)
