C) 16 bars of a song and a one-minute monologue.
If singing, bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Sarah Schorr: 20s, has been hired, by Mrs. Biddle, to be the Judge’s secretary. She is a direct, plain-spoken

WILLUM: A Vietnam vet turned architect. Warm and appealing, though indecisive and to a frustrating fault, and at a standstill in life. In love with TANSY, but too afraid of commitment to stop her from moving to another city for work.

RICK: WILLUM’s Vietnam war buddy. The “nerd.” Odd, outlandish and outrageous. Socially inept.

AXEL: Male. WILLUM’s best friend. A theater critic. Intelligent and witty, with an acerbic sense of humor. Beneath the barbs, a very good friend.

TANSY: Female. WILLUM’s nearest and dearest. A weather forecaster on the brink of a move to DC.

WALDGRAVE: Male. A new client of WILLUM’s, and a self-made millionaire. A pompous real estate tycoon.

CLELIA: WALDGRAVE’s wife. Frustrated and repressed – she carries around saucers to smash at will in order to avoid meltdowns.
