BREAKDOWN

HEISENBERG by Simon Stephens

Directed by Bari Newport

Synopsis: “Heisenberg” is love story about a chance encounter between a 42-year-old mother and a 75-year-old butcher, and the chain of events it sets in motion. Amidst the bustle of a crowded London train station, Georgie spots Alex, a much older man, and plants a kiss on his neck. This electric encounter thrusts these two strangers into a fascinating and life-changing game. Simon Stephens’ sharply original HEISENBERG brings to blazing, theatrical life the uncertain and often comical sparring match that is human connection.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT by David Meyers

Synopsis: We Will Not Be Silent tells the true story of Sophie Scholl, a German college student who led the only act of civil resistance to the Nazis during World War II. Sophie and her fellow students, members of a group called the White Rose, published underground anti-Nazi materials calling for the peaceful overthrow of Hitler. This play examines the moral strength and courage that led a group of students to risk their lives for a righteous, dangerous cause. The play is potently relevant today, as modern Sophie Scholls fight for freedom and democracy in various places across the world.

A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 by Lucas Hnath

Synopsis: Fifteen years ago, Nora left her husband, Torvald and as the door slams on her exit in 1879 Norway, the young wife and mother leaves behind her family, freeing herself from the shackles of traditional societal constraints. Lucas Hnath’s Tony-nominated A Doll’s House, Part 2 picks up where Ibsen’s groundbreaking play left off. In the years since, the two have had no contact. Nora has become a successful feminist writer, while Torvald continued to work at the bank and raised their children on his own. Now, Nora has learned that, contrary to what she believed, she and Torvald were never actually divorced. She returns to her old home to request Torvald finally grant her a divorce. But after all that’s happened, will Torvald be willing to give her what she wants? After all this time, is Nora prepared to face what she left behind?

Synopsis: You can’t choose your neighbors. In this brilliant new comedy, cultures and gardens clash, turning well-intentioned neighbors into feuding enemies. Pablo, a rising attorney, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, have just purchased a home next to Frank and Virginia, a well-established D.C. couple with a prize-worthy English garden. But an impending barbeque for Pablo’s colleagues and a delicate disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out border dispute, exposing both couples’ notions of race, taste, class and privilege.
