Male dancers who sing.

Preparation
Please bring dance shoes. Prepare short song in the style of the show in your key.An accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. Bring picture and resume stapled together.

Breakdown

TEVYE
Age: 45-60; Voice: Ab2-F5
The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures.

GOLDE
Age: 40-50; Voice: A3-Eb5
Tevye's strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye.

TZEITEL
Age: 18-25; Voice: B3-D5
Tzeitel is the first daughter to marry and the first to challenge the traditions. She has a desperate crying scene with Tevye when faced with marrying Lazar Wolf instead of Motel, who she really loves. A strong dramatic actress.

LAZER WOLF
Age: 45-50; Voice: C3 – F#4
Lazar is the town’s wealthiest citizen and the same age as Tevye, if not older. He wants to marry, by traditional parental agreement, Tevye’s daughter, Tzeitel. Promising to give her a good & secure life. A feisty, comic role

HODEL-
Age: 17-19; Voice: B3 – E5
Hodel becomes intrigued with the radical, young student, Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join him in Siberia where he is imprisoned for his reform activities. Hodel sings a haunting solo as she says goodbye to her father at the train station.

CHAVA
Age: 16
Chava is the scholarly daughter who loves to read. She falls in love and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier, and breaks her father’s heart. This role requires a capable dramatic actress who can perform an emotional dance.

SHPRINTZE & BIELKE
Ages: 13 & 14
The two youngest daughters of Tevye & Golde. They take lessons at home from Perchik & appear in several scenes with some speaking lines
SHAINDEL/CHORUS/-Age: 40 Motel’s mother

CHORUS/FRUMA SARAH-Age: 30’s
Fruma-Sarah is also a ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene. She portrays Lazar Wolf’s departed wife & becomes enraged that her husband plans on marrying Tzeitel. It is a show-stopping scene requiring a strong singer to carry a challenging solo.

CHORUS/GRANDMA TZEITEL-Age:30’s
Grandma Tzeitel is a ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene and has a wonderful solo, endorsing the marriage of Tzeitel to Motel. It is a very entertaining & memorable role.

MORDKA/CHORUS-Age: 45
Jolly, Runs the bar in town and is a friend of Tevye.

AVRAHM/PAPA/RUSSIAN AND JEWISH DANCER-Age: 25-30
A busy body. Runs the bookshop in town and keeps the town advised of all of the news in the area.

NACHUM/PAPA/RUSSIAN DANCER/JEWISH DANCER-Age: 20’s but reads older; The town beggar

FYEDKA/RUSSIAN TENOR &DANCER-Age: 18
Fyedka, a strong young soldier, sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye’s imposed silence towards him. Fyedka has a solo in “To Life” and dances a Russian dance with his fellow soldiers

MOTEL-Age: 18-20
Meek, sensitive, nervous, but loveable. He is a poor tailor who seeks the hand of Tzeitel, and comes into his own in the process! This is a terrific character role.

RABBI-Age: 65-70
Anatevka’s Jewish spiritual leader.

MENDEL/SON/BOTTLE DANCER-Age: 18-20
The Rabbi’s son. A stuffed shirt. He is uncertain of the presence of Perchik in the village and is threatened by him.
