BREAKDOWN

The play takes place in Iran in 2009. All characters are Middle Eastern. Actors DO NOT need to speak Farsi.

A note about the sides: The play takes place in a classroom where students are learning to speak English. Dialogue that is bolded is meant to be ‘in English’ and should be spoken with some degree of an accent (depending on the character). Dialogue that is not bolded is intended to be the characters ‘native language’ so should not have an accent of any kind.

SEEKING:

Marjan (Iranian, Female, 44) the teacher; was taught both American and British English; accent reflects this. Speaks English extremely well.

Elham (Iranian, Female, 26) a student; has a very thick, very Iranian accent that doesn't not sound like Borat; we cannot always understand her English

Roya (Iranian, Female, 54) a student; has a noticeable accent but is always understood

Omid (Iranian, Male, 23) a student; has almost no accent

Goli (Iranian, Female, 18) not a girl, not yet a woman; her accent is light and sweet
