BREAKDOWN
Storyline: DELTA, a strong-willed woman with a razor sharp wit is given a mission by GOD, who is suffering from an artistic block, to repair the broken world by stepping into people’s lives and helping them to connect to one another. Skeptical of her mission, Delta faces off with God in a humorous and touching confrontation about the nature of connection in our lives while she tries with gusto (albeit clumsily!) to bring people together. But when asked to revisit some moments from her past, Delta has to confront her ability to love and accept love in return. And just as Delta is learning from God, God learns from Delta; he takes a gamble and rediscovers his creative spark.
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING 6 ROLES (5 actors with one doubling):
HOLLYWOOD
(30s): A waitress at the Diner-be-Damned in Wabash, Illinois, focused and driven, take-no-prisoners pretty, weather-beaten. She has a stoic nature that often disguises her true feelings especially when she feels they may distract her from what she’s working toward.
LYLE
(mid-40s): a flash in the pan rock star who spends most of his evenings at The-Diner-be-Damned. Lyle leads with an open heart and an unyielding sense of optimism which fuel his persistence, but his free-wheeling nature has gotten him into trouble in the past. (must play the guitar.)
TOMMY
(50s-60s): doubles with RALPH): owner of Pellino’s Diner, Italian American; well groomed; sexy. A romantic who often masks his feelings under a tough guy exterior (Brooklyn through and through.)
ROSIE
(70s-80s): Tommy’s mother, deeply caring, warm, funny. Isn’t afraid to ask hard questions, her family is her chief concern.
BOBBIE
(40s-50s, female): Tommy’s fiancé, attractive, Type A, goal oriented, obsessed with celebrities and old movies.
RALPH:
(doubles with Tommy) working class, street smart, with an understated and surprising sex appeal.
