VIDEO SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Please limit your video submission to 3 minutes maximum. Actors should prepare ONE CONTEMPORARY monologue of their choosing. This time limit includes your slate (your name, name of play, and character you will be performing) which should be included at the beginning of your audition submission. Please upload your taped audition to Vimeo and include a link for viewing in your email submission. YouTube links are also acceptable, but Vimeo is strongly preferred. Please DO NOT share via WeTransfer, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or other file sharing platforms.
If the actor prefers, we will also accept the same material in AUDIO format. Follow the above guidelines for submission in this format as well.

2021 CATF AUDIO DRAMA BREAKDOWN:

SHEEPDOG
REHEARSAL via Zoom: Saturday May 15, 2021—Thursday May 20, 2021
RECORD LIVE in NY Thursday May 20, 2021

Amina:Black Female, late 20’s to mid-30’s. She is a Police Officer. She is emotionally guarded, strong, with a raw sense of humor and not too self-serious. She’s a Cop’s Cop. She has that classic noir dark sense of humor. She comes from working class roots and is from the city and street smart. Her magnetism/charisma is huge. The actor has to command the space and control the storytelling.

Ryan:White Male, late 20’s to mid-30’s. He is a Police Officer. He is an earnest working class Midwesterner. He is bright, but not college educated. We should fall in love with him. He is charming, warm, and friendly.

THE HOUSE OF THE NEGRO INSANE
REHEARSAL via Zoom: Sunday May 30, 2021—Friday June 4, 2021
RECORD LIVE in NY Friday, June 4, 2021

Attius:African American Male, late 30’s to 40’s. Tall, imposing, intelligent, with a hardened exterior and a fuse just below the surface. He moves like a man who has been confined too long. He walks a delicate balance in order to hang onto the relative shelter he’s built for himself at Taft State Hospital by shrouding his sentiments. He is a survivor and a good man.
Henry:White Male, age 45. Wiry, a Scarecrow. He is unhinged and unpredictable. He follows a delusional code of his own making…desperate to be recognized and respected. HE IS A DANGEROUS HUMAN, but earnestly believes he is a protector and savior.
Effie:Black Female, late 20’s. She is strong, sturdy, and self-determined. She is an unstoppable force who carries herself without fear…Willing to pay the price rather than lose her freedom or bow to authority. A passionate, independent, rebellious woman.
Madeleine:Black Female, 18+ to play 12 years old. She wears an eye patch. She suffers from seizures (epilepsy) She grew up sheltered , lonely, and disconnected from other children, and wants to find friendship and affection.

SELF TAPE SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR AUDITION
• Framing your shot helps. Please make sure your phone/device is in landscape format and not portrait position.
• Make sure the lighting is sufficient. Non-incandescent, bright white lighting that includes some diffusion (non direct, soft) is best.
• The sound is important. Please make sure if using a reader that YOU are easily heard. An external mic (Lavalier) plugs into your device, is economical and sounds great.
• Your background is clean. Please be aware of what's behind you. A busy or dark background can distract the viewer/listener.
• Keep the slate separate from the actual audition. Slates can be your headshot or your "live" introduction, whichever you prefer.
Please feel free to listen to our podcast (2 episodes, 20 minutes each) on video auditions. The link is here:
