A.E.A. and non-A.E.A. Talent for all roles. 3 A.E.A. Guest Artist contracts available, to be cast from among these roles: Albert, Rose, Mr. MacAfee, Mrs. Peterson.

Preparation
Preparation: Bring sheet music in proper key, accompanist provided. Music in the style of the show encouraged. Pop is okay for Conrad Birdie. No recorded music, or a capella please. Non-union please limit song to 1 minute.

Breakdown

Performances to take place at the Kavli Theatre, Bank of America Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Thousand Oaks, CA. ALL ROLES OPEN TO NON-EQUITY. There is pay for all roles for ages 18 and up. All roles are available, with the exception of Kim MacAfee. DIVERSITY IS ENCOURAGED. ALL ETHNIC TYPES WELCOME.

ALBERT PETERSON - (Age 30-40, plays age 32). Handsome, charismatic and creative, yet flustered and neurotic, composer/manager, a bit of a “mamma’s boy.” Must sing and move very well, dance experience preferred. (Baritone, high F#)

ROSE ALVAREZ - (Age 28-35). Albert’s long-suffering secretary/girlfriend. Determined, exasperated, with a fiery passion, but a sweet, hopeful heart that shines through. Strong dancing and singing role. (Lyric Alto - Low F#)

CONRAD BIRDIE - (Age 20-28). Handsome, well-built, 50’s rock star with the charisma of a young Elvis Presley. NO ELVIS IMPERSONATORS, PLEASE! Must sing well (rock’n’roll), and move well, dance experience helpful. (Baritone color, lots of high F’s)

KIM MacAFEE - (Age 16). Cast.

MR. HARRY MacAFEE - (Age 38+). Kim’s father, desperately trying to hold on to his place as head of the household. Must have a unique comedy spirit and sing. (Character Baritone, must harmonize - High E)

MRS. DORIS MacAFEE - (Age 35+). Kim’s mother, combines June Cleaver warmth with a slightly addled, star-struck spin. Must sing. (Mezzo, must harmonize - High E)

RANDOLPH MacAFEE - (Plays age 9). Kim’s younger brother, smart-alecky yet earnest. Must sing. (Alto, must harmonize).

MRS. MAE PETERSON - (Age 50+). Albert’s mother. Aggrieved, manipulative, extremely loving (i.e., smothering), and both dismissive of, and threatened by, Rose. Must sing (character voice).

HUGO PEABODY - (Plays age 16). Kim’s “steady.” The kid next door, he might be any size, style, or personality, but is very threatened by the presence of Conrad in Kim’s life. Must sing and move.

URSULA MERKLE - (Plays age 15-16). Kim’s hyper-enthusiastic teen neighbor, she lives and breathes for Conrad Birdie. Must sing and move well.

MAYOR MERKLE – (Plays 40-60). Pompous small-town politician. Must sing with ensemble.

MAYOR’S WIFE – (Plays 40-55). Daffy, energetic – it’s easy to see where Ursula came from. Must sing with ensemble and move.

YOUNG MALE and FEMALE DANCERS WHO SING WELL and SINGERS WHO DANCE, (Age 12 and up), to portray the crazed teenaged fans of Conrad Birdie in New York and Sweet Apple, Friends of Kim, Harvey Johnson, Sad Girl, etc. Tumbling a plus.

ADULT MALE and FEMALE SINGERS who move, all ages and types, to portray grownups, parents, Shriners, Maude, Gloria Rasputin, Police, Photographers, Train Conductor, busboys, etc

CHILDREN, Age 7 -11, 4’11” and under, to play younger siblings of teenagers. Must sing and move well. Playing a musical instrument and tumbling a plus (no instruments at auditions, please). All children at audition will be taught a song from the show - no prepared song needed.
