BREAKDOWN

THE ADDAMS FAMILY – THE MUSICAL
Directed by Hunter Foster
Choreographed by Shannon Lewis
Music Director: John Daniels
Music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa
Book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice

Rehearsals: 6/8/20-6/26/20 (in NYC)
First Preview: 6/26/20
Opening: 6/28/20-8/1/20

[GOMEZ ADDAMS] Male, 35 to 55. Tenor (Bb2 – G4). An attractive man of Spanish descent and a wild Iberian passion, who adores his wife, takes great pride in his children, and is immensely proud to be an Addams; caught between his daughter and his wife he feels completely trapped and unable to make either happy, which is his greatest joy. His desire for Morticia is undimmed after 20 years of marriage, and it takes very little to fire up his lust, although it appears they haven’t tango’d in quite some time. Must have great comedic timing, move well, and strong vocals. Fencing skills a plus.

[MORTICIA ADDAMS] Female 35 – 50. Alto/Mezzo Sop. (G3 – Bb5). She holds the balance of power in the family and often seems like the only emotionally mature member of the clan. She is beautiful and aristocratic, with a sexy, dry wit; the real head of the family and the critical and moving force behind it. Morticia always sees the best in people; it somehow comes off as strength rather than naivete. She enjoys being the center of all the sexual energy in the room. Must be a great dancer who is funny and sings well

[UNCLE FESTER] Male, 30-50. Tenor (C3 – C5). Serves as the musical’s narrator; child-like, hugely enthusiastic and totally incorrigible; a vaudevillian, needs strong comedy and tenor vocals.

[WEDNESDAY ADDAMS] Female 18+ to play 18, Strong pop voice with belt (A3 – E5). Gothic in a sexy way, witty with a terrifically dry sense of humor; just wants her family to be “normal” for one night to meet the parents of the boy she’s fallen in love with; strong pop belt vocals.

[PUGSLEY ADDAMS] Male, 11-13. Strong high vocals (unchanged voice). A charming, funny, husky boy who loves being tortured by his sister; he wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. A big personality with strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed.

[GRANDMA] Female, 40s-70s. Strong character vocals (G4 – F5). A feisty 102 yr. old woman who is very active for her age. Fun, quirky and easily led, but don’t mess with Grandma; comedic actress with strong character vocals.

[LURCH] Male, 25 to 50. Bass (Eb2-E4) Seeking actors at least 6’1 - the taller the better; a man of very, very few words, often spoken at half speed; most of what he utters is long, plaintive groans, some tinged with irony or exasperation. Lurch sees everything, knows everything that goes on under the roof of The Addams Family Manse. Must have TRUE low bass vocals.

[MAL BEINECKE] Male, 40-55. Bari-tenor (C3-A4) Stuffy, former military mand and father of 19-year-old Lucas. Exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice; thinks the Addams’ are beyond strange and does not want to spend time having dinner with them, much less be related.

[ALICE BEINECKE] Female, 40-50. Soprano/high belt (Ab3- G#5). Mother of 19-year-old Lucas, seemingly mousy, midwestern, dutiful housewife who’s devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires; while at the Addams’ family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth; very strong comedic singer/actress.

[LUCAS BEINECKE] Male, 18+ to play 19, Pop Tenor (C3-C5). Attractive, in shape young man. A writer, he fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her; experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Has conflicts with his parents close-minded ways and wants everyone to be happy.

IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS
Director/Choreographer: TBA
Based upon the Paramount Pictures film written for the screen by: Norman Krasna, Norman Panama, and Melvin Frank
Book by David Ives and Paul Blake
Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin

Rehearsals: 10/26/20-11/18/20 (in NYC)
First Preview: 11/20/20
Opening: 11/21/20
Closing: 1/3/21

BOB WALLACE (late 20s to mid 30s, no older): Easygoing, charming, decent principled man. A major singing star in post-World War II America. He wears his fame easily, but is seeking something more important: a decent, fulfilling life and true love. While helping his Army unit general regain his dignity, he defines his own life and meets his true love. Seeking a superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well. Basic tap is a plus. Baritone.

PHIL DAVIS (late 20s to mid 30s, no older): The ambitious, go-getting, song-and-dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator, incorrigible skirt-chaser… and definite ladies man. He saved Bob’s life during the war and became his partner and engine behind their fabulous success. He must have boyish charm and sex appeal. Strong tap and theatre jazz needed. Seeking a major song-and-dance comic performer. Bari-tenor.

BETTY HAYNES (mid to late 20s): The sensible responsible half of the up-and-coming song-and-dance team the Haynes Sisters. She has a beautiful, rich singing voice that matches her decent, upstanding principles. She is overprotective of her younger sister and – like BOB – she needs something more. Of course they are ultimately the perfect couple. Seeking a major female singer of quiet beauty and charm with a rich chest-mix sound & a soprano extension.

JUDY HAYNES (early 20s): The younger, more ambitious Haynes sister. While wholesome and adorable, she is sexy and flirty – a winning charmer no man can resist. Strong tap and theatre jazz needed. Seeking a major song-and-dance performer. Chest-mix.

GENERAL HENRY WAVERLY (late 50s to mid 60s): A retired U.S. Army General, adjusting to returning to civilian life in post World War II America. Once a powerful leader now struggles to run an inn in Vermont. He remains a man of great principal and dignity. Beneath his hard, curmudgeon, military exterior, lays a warm compassionate man in need of family and love. Still a handsome, vital man. Non-singing role.

MARTHA WATSON (late 40s to mid 50s): Once a musical comedy star, now the general’s housekeeper at the Inn. She has a VERY dry, wry, honest wisecracking sense of humor. Big-hearted but completely unsentimental. She runs the GENERAL’s life in spite of his protestations. An irrepressible meddler but always for what she believes to be the other guy’s best interests. Seeking a winning, appealing character comedienne with a clarion belt voice.

RALPH SHELDRAKE (mid to late 30s): Former Army buddy of BOB and PHIL’s, now a major television executive with the Ed Sullivan Show. Fast-talking, New York professional. Baritone.

MIKE NULTY (late 20s to mid 30s): Strong singer, first or second tenor preferred but not absolutely necessary. Harassed, overworked, frustrated stage manager of Bob & Phil's show. A Jason Alexander/Nathan Lane-type comic actor, but not necessarily short and/or round.

EZEKIEL FOSTER/MR. SNORING MAN (early 40s to early 50s): Heavy-set comic, character man. Excellent legit baritone. EZEKIEL: Vermont local with dry delivery who is a stagehand for the show and comes to love show business. MR. SNORING MAN: Passenger on the train to Vermont; vocal feature in the song “Snow”.

SUSAN WAVERLY (to play 9 years old): 49”-52” – no taller. The GENERAL’s granddaughter visiting from California for Christmas. A charming, loveable, and outgoing real kid – very intelligent, but knows nothing about show business. Once bitten by the showbiz bug, she demonstrates everything that is winning in the ultimate child performer. Excellent belt voice, must move well.
