Roland Hayes (June 3, 1887 – January 1, 1977) is considered the first African American male concert artist to receive wide international acclaim as well as at home in the US. This is a memory play that chronicles his life through flashbacks.

Seeking submissions from EQUITY MEMBERS ONLY for the followin roles only. Please submit only if you are "right" for a role and you are free during the contract dates for both runs (see above).

Roland Hayes:
African American man, early 30s - early 50s. Actor/singer of great strength and compassion. Performer should be a light tenor or high baritone. Should have the ability to sing spirituals as well as classical music in various languages – Italian, German and French (can be taught phonetically). Actor must have the range and versatility to convincingly play the ages 10-55. Roland was a deeply committed and spiritual man, not unlike a preacher. His singing voice came deep from his heart and soul. To prepare: A spiritual of the actor’s choice, and "Una furtiva lagrima" by Donizetti.

Accompanist:
Caucasian man, late 20s - early 50s. Performer must be an excellent pianist, as he accompanies the entire play. Must also be a strong actor, with some singing ability. Actor should have good comedic timing, and as he plays various characters, he must have the ability to morph into each one convincingly. The actor should be able to play classical music, as well as gospel/spirituals. Please prepare "Una furtiva lagrima" by Donizetti and the spiritual “Over My Head I Hear Music in the Air”.
