a thirty-four-year-old Black woman who looks five years younger; former backup singer at The Cotton Club; a natural born opportunist always looking for the next come up; Angel will sing, but she is a mediocre singer at best

Guy Jacobs:
a thirtyish Black man; costume designer at The Cotton Club; an openly gay man who refuses to apologize for who he is to anybody

Delia Patterson:
a twenty-five-year-old Black woman; social worker on staff at The Margaret Sanger family planning clinics; a dedicated professional who has likely never been in love

Sam Thomas:
a forty-year-old Black man, a doctor at Harlem Hospital; a hardworking man who is also the life of the party and will find any reason to celebrate

Leland Cunningham:
a twenty-eight-year-old Black man from Alabama; a six-week resident of Harlem; a God-fearing man who is quick to judge anything outside of what he’s been taught or believes
