BREAKDOWN

BIG LOVE and HATEF*CK will run in repertory. The same actress will play the roles of LAYLA and LYDIA.

Dubbed “the current meteor in DC theatre” by The Washington Post, Round House Theatre is one of the “Big Six” professional theatres in the Washington, DC area.

SEEKING:

[LYDIA / LAYLA MAHDI]
To play ‘Lydia’ in Big Love and ‘Layla’ in Hatef*ck, in rep.

LYDIA in BIG LOVE:
South Asian American or Arab-American Female, 30s. No-nonsense yet romantic. Betrothed to Nikos, she is a smart, thoughtful, wholehearted, liberated, contemporary woman, escaping from an arranged marriage, along with her sisters. Balanced and strong in her convictions and emotional maturity; the middle ground between her two sisters in her quest for both female independence and freedom to love. This role requires full nudity. Should have strong movement or dance background, as this a highly physical production.

LAYLA in HATEF*CK:
South Asian American or Arab-American Female, 30s. Contemporary literature professor at Wayne State College with a social activism streak. Confident in mind and body, intense, ambitious, and stubborn, Layla’s uncompromising view point sometimes clouds her ability to connect. She leads and is not led.
Both roles require a strong facility with language and dexterity with text.

Contract dates: April 7 – July 3, 2020.

[GIULIANO]
Actor plays “Guiliano” in Big Love only. Transgender male or female, non-binary or gender-fluid; any ethnicity. Mid-20s to early 30s. Grandchild of Bella. Open-hearted; lover of love; lover of beauty. A dreamer and eternal optimist with a secret. Special interest in performance artists or those with drag performance experience. Should have strong movement or dance background, as this a highly physical production. Must sing and ideally plays piano.

Contract dates: April 24 – June 21, 2020.
