THE GREAT GATSBY
Adapted by: Simon Levy
Based on the novel by: F. Scott Fitzgerald
Director: Geoffrey Sherman First Rehearsal: January 3, 2014 Opens: January 31, 2014
Closes: May 25, 2014

Summer, 1922. Long Island, New York.

Daisy Fay Buchanan: (Early 30’s Nick's second cousin, once removed, and the wife of Tom Buchanan. She is attractive, effervescent, and somewhat self-absorbed. She is very much the Southern belle.

Nick Carraway: (Early 30’s) a Yale grad from St Paul, Minnesota, now a bond salesman in New York. He seems easy-going and optimistic, though he becomes disillusioned by the lives of the rich and famous.

Tom Buchanan: (30’s) Daisy’s husband, a millionaire who lives on East Egg. He is an arrogant, ‘hulking’ man; a former football star at Yale who now plays polo.

Jordan Baker: (Early 30’s) A close friend of Daisy Buchanan with a firm athletic body, and an aloof attitude. She is an amateur golfer with a slightly shady reputation. Ultimately, she becomes Nick Carraway's girlfriend.

Myrtle Wilson: (30’s) the wife of George Wilson, a mechanic and garage owner. She is also Tom Buchanan's mistress; a New York girl, overtly sexual/sensual in a way that would probably appall Daisy.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW
Playwright: William Shakespeare
Director: Diana Van Fossen First Rehearsal: February 5, 2014
Opens: March 14, 2014 Closes: May 24, 2014

Set in Alaska and Hawaii in 1959 as both territories achieved statehood. Hawaii is the home of Kate, Baptista and Bianca; and Alaska, reached by bush plane, is Petruchio's home.

Kate: (30s) fresh looking, lithe, athletic. A restless powerhouse, at one moment charming and kittenish (with a teasing sense of humor), the next, a bad tempered wildcat delighting in injuring her prey physically and emotionally. Her anger escalates to dizzying heights. She is intrigued, possibly puzzled, even dazzled, by Petruchio's unassailable self-confidence and inexhaustible resilience. Smart, tough, resilient with some excellent comic chops. Able to do physical comedy.

Bianca: (30s) Sweet and very alluring young. She has no idea why all the guys are dumbstruck by her, though it's nice to get so much attention. When the dashing Lucentio shows up, the attraction is completely mutual. A well-bred, high class young woman, playing sex kitten in order to get a man and what she wants. Very much, daddy’s little girl.

Lucentio: (Barely 30s) Big man on campus in a Mr. Nice Guy body. Handsome, classy, debonair, ivy leaguer. Smart and just setting out for success.

Hortensio: (30s) Wealthy, wily, aristocratic in a slightly goofy, likable way. Petruchio's friend. (Think a young Jimmy Stewart)
