BREAKDOWN
ALL ROLES IDENTIFY AS MALE Late 20's-Early 30's.All actors must be comfortable with movement and confident shirtless.
ALEX:
Working as a chemist. He is somewhat ashamed of his humble upbringing and has become slightly spoiled after marrying into Josh’s wealth. He is deliberate in his actions and speech --- and is pointedly articulate. Nothing he does or says is accidental.
DARIUS:
Massage therapist who suffers from low self-esteem. He is intent on pleasing those around him, often putting the needs of others before his own. He identifies as a healer; someone who dispels pain. He is lonely, and is frustrated with trying to make friendships and romantic relationships work in NYC. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH PARTIAL NUDITY.
JOSH:
Theater director who comes from wealth. Married to Alex. Manhattan native. Sexy, confident, and aware of his own self-worth. Simultaneously sensitive and manipulative. He likes to be in control and demands a lot of attention --- which he often gets by using his inherent sensuality. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH FRONTAL NUDITY.
Directors Note: "Afterglow," is a play about love, sex, loyalty, and trust and is presented in a raw, unapologetic, and, at times, abrasive way. To tackle such issues while shying away from nudity, for fear that it would embarrass either its audience or its performers, would be disingenuous to the message of the piece and will therefore be used in this production.”
