BREAKDOWN

[NORA]
Female, Early-Mid 40s, African-American, LantinX, Middle Eastern, Asian, Southeast Asian, or Caucasian. Nora has returned to her husband’s house after a 15 year estrangement. In the interim she has become an independent woman and a successful writer, even though she published under a male pseudonym. Nora is an intelligent, radical, forward-thinking, independent woman ahead of her time. She finds herself in a practical dilemma she cannot fix on her own and that is what has driven her back to her husband’s home after all this time.

[TORVALD]
Male, Mid-Late 40s, African-American, LantinX, Middle Eastern, Asian, Southeast Asian, or Caucasian. Even after 15 years Torvald is still dealing with the emotional scars his wife’s departure left on him. He feels abandoned and has never truly been able to find peace. He sees Nora’s return as a chance to find closure. He is reserved, mild-mannered, sensitive, and keeps his emotions close to the vest, though he has many. His actions years ago are the impetus for Nora’s sudden return.

[ANNE MARIE]
Female, 60s plus, African-American, LantinX, Middle Eastern, Asian, Southeast Asian, or Caucasian. Anne Marie is Nora’s former nanny who came with her to Torvald’s house when he and Nora married. When Nora deserted the family, Anne Marie was left to pick up the pieces and raise Nora’s children. She struggles between her long history with Nora and her loyalty to Torvald and the now grown children. She is honest, blunt, and big-hearted.
