Mid-Michigan's award winning professional theatre company, Williamston Theatre, located at 122 S. Putnam Street in downtown Williamston, starts off 2011 with Sophocles' classic Greek tale, Oedipus. Tickets for this unique adaptation by Annie Martin and Tony Caselli are now on sale.

Oedipus begins with five Preview performances starting Thursday, January 27. During the first four Previews audience members will have the opportunity to take part in the process of creating a show by participating in a talkback session with the director following each performance. The Official Opening Night is Friday, February 4 with the show scheduled to run through Sunday, February 20. Performances will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at eight o'clock and Sunday matinees at two o'clock with additional three o'clock matinees on Saturday, February 5, Thursday, February 10 and Saturday, February 19.

The Williamston Theatre invites you to take a trip to the city of Thebes to hear the tale of King Oedipus. Oedipus journeys through life, attempting to outrun a foretold prophesy only to land right in the hands of fate. Five stellar actors bring the story to life as the intimate Williamston Theatre space is theatrically transformed to hold this epic and stunning tale about truth, destiny and darkness.

The cast consists of Sandra Birch (It Came From Mars, Home: Voices From Families of the Midwest), Barton Bund, John M. Manfredi, Brandon Piper and Jamie Weeder. Tony Caselli is the Director for Oedipus. The rest of the production team includes set design by Daniel C. Walker (Home, The Smell of the Kill), lighting design by Dana White and costume design by Holly Iler (Blue Door). The Stage Manager is Erin K. Snyder.

Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can for Thursday, January 27. Remaining Preview tickets are $15.00! Starting Opening Night, tickets prices are $24.00 for Friday and Saturday evenings, $20.00 for the Saturday matinees and $18.00 for Thursday matinee and evenings. Discounted rates are available for groups of 10 or more for most performances. Tickets can be ordered by calling (517) 655-SHOW (7469), Monday - Friday from 12 - 6pm. Please note the seating for the Williamston Theatre has been altered to allow the audience to surround the space where the actors will perform.

Special thanks to the Verizon Foundation for their generous grant that has allowed the Williamston Theatre to continue its School Day Matinee program.
