Sutton Foster Lights-Up Christmas On PBS And Detroit Public Television

Sutton Foster is an award-winning actor, singer and dancer who has performed in 11 Broadway shows and originated roles in the Broadway productions of Little Women, Young Frankenstein, Shrek The Musical, and her Tony Award-winning performances in Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

First seen on television on Star Search at age 15, Foster has more recently appeared in Sesame Street, Flight of the Conchords, Law and Order SVU and her current comedy-drama Younger.

As a solo vocal artist, she has performed all over the country and internationally, gracing the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's, and Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, which aired on PBS.

She attended Troy High School in Troy, Michigan. Though she left before graduating to join the national tour of Will Rogers Follies, she earned her diploma later - and in 2011 she received an Honorary Doctorate degree from Ball State University, where she is on faculty as a teacher and advisor to the Department of Theatre and Dance.

The 60-minute program A Merry Little Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir features dance and song performances with arrangements of holiday carols such as "Joy to the World," "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Christmas Time is Here" (from A Charlie Brown Christmas), "Silent Night," and "Angels from the Realms of Glory."

"I've always associated the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with Christmas, so it was truly an honor to take part in this wonderful tradition, which is unlike anything else I've done before," said Foster. "There's something that happens when you stand on the stage and sharing this experience not only with the Choir and Orchestra, but with the 21,000 people that attend each night. It becomes about everyone, no matter what you believe, coming together to celebrate this season."

Hugh Bonneville, who played beloved patriarch Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, in Downton Abbey, joins the program as musical guest and narrator. "The love and commitment that these people who are volunteering give to this program for the single purpose of celebration through music, word, and dance-it's a rare and extraordinary experience," Bonneville said.

The Christmas special was taped over three consecutive nights in front of a live combined audience of 63,000 people at the Conference Center at Temple Square in Salt Lake City in December 2017.

Join us for a spirited evening on Christmas Day and tune in at 10:30 p.m. for A Merry Little Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, featuring Sutton Foster.
