Sam Shepard's FOOL FOR LOVE Comes to Stagecrafters in October

Stagecrafters proudly presents Sam Shepard's Fool for Love on Stagecrafters 2nd Stage, Friday, October 5th through Sunday, October 14th, 2018.

The story centers on the turbulent relationship between childhood friends and former lovers May and Eddie. In a rundown motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, they square off to make sense of their intensely volatile feelings for one another. Tensions escalate when a stranger visits, unleashing dark, long-hidden secrets that threaten to consume them and everything they've known.

Written by acclaimed playwright Sam Shepard, Fool for Love was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and won an Obie Award for Best New American Play in 1984. Director Jason Dilly believes that staging Fool for Love is a tribute to Shepard's legacy as one of America's greatest playwrights.

Shepard passed away last year after a distinguished career as a writer, actor, director and playwright, winning a record-breaking ten Obie Awards in the span of 20 years. His plays are noted for their dark humor and sharply written characters, often disillusioned with life and haunted by troubled pasts.

Stage veterans Aaron Sohaski and Rachel Keown , portray Eddie and May, respectively, and worked to develop a clear sense of the issues behind their dysfunctional dynamic.

Says Keown, "We enter into May's world just at the point where all her hard work toward self-sufficiency and self-confidence are abandoned, reflecting Eddie's repeated pattern of abandonment throughout her life."

For his part, Eddie struggles to make sense of his feelings for May, made more difficult because "he is used to controlling everyone around him. He is manipulative and feisty but can be charming too," says Sohaski.

All of which adds up to an intriguing and unpredictable ride, only as Sam Shepard can write it. As Dilly sums it up, "It's a raw convergence of ghosts of the past with a volatile present and an uncertain future, all interacting simultaneously ... the stage equivalent of a crisis vortex."
