Pontiac Theatre IV will open its 2017/2018 season on November 10th with the musical Pippin, the classic song and dance-filled tale of a young man in search of his "corner of the sky."

Directed by Michael Brody (Waterford), choreographed by Mark McCleese (Auburn Hills), and music directed by Shari Fiore (Shelby Township), Pippin plays Friday, November 10th, Saturday, November 11th, Friday, November 17th, and Saturday, November 18th at 8pm at Pontiac High School.

A mysterious troupe of actors and dancers, led by Jada Boone as the Leading Player, accompany Pippin (Chris Brody, Waterford) as he searches for the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great (McKinley Shaw, Waterford). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the ordinary moments that happen every day. With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world.

Tickets are $12 per person, $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are currently available online at pontiactheatreiv.com and will also be available at the door; group rates available upon inquiry. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Gleaners Community Food Bank and receive a free popcorn at the concession stand during the show.

The original production of Pippin, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Roger O. Hirson, premiered on Broadway in 1972. It was directed by Bob Fosse, won nine Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards, and ran for close to 2000 performances before closing in 1977. Pippin has become a staple of the American Musical cannon, noted for many memorable songs including Corner of the Sky, Magic to Do, l Guess I'll Miss the Man, Glory, No Time at All, Morning Glow, and Love Song. Pontiac Theatre IV's production is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Pontiac Theatre IV began as a summer venture in 1969 with what was then the Pontiac Parks and Recreation Department (now Community and Human Services) of the City of Pontiac. Over the years we have enjoyed the support of local business and industry, the Pontiac schools, and the City of Pontiac, which still provides space for storage and rehearsals. As a community theatre, the group welcomes the participation of all interested people.
