Cabaret 313 will present a glimpse at the future of the cabaret genre with multi-faceted artist Kyle Riabko (Spring Awakening, Hair) in Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre at the Detroit Opera House (1526 Broadway St, Detroit, MI 48226).

"Riabko is a star in the New York cabaret scene right now," said Allan Nachman, Cabaret 313's President & Executive Director. "He consistently sells out venues with his unique take on cabaret, and the crowds he brings in are a great mix of old-school performance goers and the younger theatre fans."

Fresh from critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway and West End runs of the stage show of the same name, Riabko's solo performance of Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined features Burt Bacharach's many hits performed in the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Award-nominated original, hailed as "One of the Year's Best" performances by The New York Times.

"Riabko has recreated a good number of Burt Bacharach's 100-plus hits to near perfection featuring his own trademark style," Nachman said. "His choice to do so in this solo-acoustic performance allows it to fit in perfectly with the cabaret shows we present through the intimacy of one man accompanied solely by his guitar."

With his 30th birthday around the corner on Sep. 29, Riabko stands as one of the youngest

artists Cabaret 313 has presented in its five years as Detroit's premier cabaret presenter. While the organization consistently presents some of the art form's leading stars, Riabko represents the future of cabaret, combining classic works with contemporary arrangements.

"Everyone who knows cabaret knows names like Ute Lemper and Megan Hilty, and we have presented these artists as well as many more cabaret standards throughout our five years," said Nachman. "With this season, our guests are being treated to the next generation of artists like Riabko, Carmen Cusack and Alexandra Silber in hopes of solidifying these names as future staples of the genre."

As part of Cabaret 313's education initiatives to bring the art form of cabaret to metro Detroit's young artists, Riabko will lead a master class with Detroit's Mosaic Youth Theatre on Oct. 27. This master class will give aspiring young performers in the city the opportunity to perform for and receive feedback from Riabko in intimate, one-on-one sessions.

"These master classes have been part of Cabaret 313's core philosophy since its inception. Being able to give these young performers the opportunity to develop their skills with one of today's leading stars is an incomparable experience," Nachman said. "In terms of Riabko and his time with Mosaic Youth, these artists are going to receive potentially life-changing coaching from one of Broadway's rising young talents."
