Go Comedy! Welcomes Diversity, Original Comedy & More This Month

This month, Go Comedy! is proud to present three original events featuring improvisers from the areas' diverse communities. Represent!, Female Hysteria, and TRUE COLORS: Come out and Play will appear on Wednesdayevenings at 9:00pm. In addition, the award-winning improv theater will welcome its newest original comedy Swine and Potato, Thursday nights while continuing its popular BITS improv tournament for the summer. Tickets for all Go Comedy! shows ($10-$18) are available now online at www.gocomedy.net and in person at the Go Comedy! Box office beginning at 6:00pm Wednesday-Sunday. Show descriptions and a complete performance schedule follow below.

BITS
Michigan's largest improv tournament is back for its ninth year. The annual tournament brings 16 of the best improv troupes from across the Detroit region to Go Comedy! in a single elimination competition. In August the final two teams will compete for the $1,009 grand prize and a performance slot on the Go Comedy! schedule. Each week, two teams will face off on the Go Comedy! stage with just 22 minutes to impress the audience with their skills. At the end of the hour, the audience will choose by secret ballot the winning team which will continue in the tournament. The tournament continues every Wednesday evening through August. Tickets are $10.

Swine & Potato

A new sketch show from Go Comedy! Resident Artists Rj Cach & Aaron Johnstone, directed by Lauren Bickers. Swine & Potato also features Nuverre Naami, Maggie O'Reilly, and Tom Novik. It appears Thursday nights at 9:00pm (9:30pm on June 28). Tickets are $10.

REPRESENT!, Female Hysteria, TRUE COLORS: Come out and play!
After presenting its first Diversity Jam on May 2, Go Comedy! is excited to welcome three diversity-focused improv nights in June.

REPRESENT! welcomes members of Detroit's underrepresented groups the Go Comedy! stage for an improv showcase followed by an improv jam on Wednesday, June 6 at 9:00pm.

Female Hysteria returns to Go Comedy! on Wednesday, June 20 at 9:00pm. This special night showcases all-female/female-identifying improv troupes, followed by a Ladies' Jam.

TRUE COLORS: Come out and play! celebrates Pride Month at Go Comedy! with LGBTQ Improvisers performing improv based on select guests' coming out stories followed by an open improv jam with members of the LGBTQ community and their allies.

"We look forward to making these unique improv jams a regular part of our schedule." States Go Comedy! producer Pj Jacokes. "Over the past 10 years we've made a significant impact on our community. We want to make sure that extends to its many diverse segments including people of color, women, the LBGTQ community and others." Tickets for Go Comedy! Diversity jams are $10.

CHARACTER FONDUE

Featuring a melting pot of character performances, mixed with a dash of improvised monologues, Character Fondue introduces a world of uniques and hilarious characters brought to life.

DATE NIGHT

An improvised romantic comedy that follows the unfolding story of a first date. Each night the cast reads an anonymous pair of real life dating ads from craigslist and creates a featured 'couple' inspired by the ads. Will they fall in love or will it fall apart?

Go Comedy! brings two of its newest long-form style improv shows to the stage in a back-to-back double feature.

The NEWSish team is back with a brand new show. Hot Takes is a combination of news headlines, special guests, panel discussions and improv based on current affairs and more.

PANDEMONIA

More improv than you can shake an invisible stick at! 12 comedians vie for laughs, love and points to see who can be the last one standing through a series of comedic scenes, songs, and even party games. Audience suggestions pave the way for a wild night of improv comedy. Not to be missed! Pandemonia features a rotating cast.

THE GO COMEDY! ALL STAR SHOWDOWN

The theater's signature show continues to be The Go Comedy! All Star Showdownwhich has played on Friday and Saturday nights continually for nearly 10 years. Featuring members of Go Comedy!'s resident company, The All Star Showdownputs two teams of improvisers in an improv competition tailored to challenge their abilities, think on their feet and give audiences a roaring good time. The cast also plays for audience members who take home fabulous prizes when their team wins. It's a night of hilarious laughs and great times!

THE FAMILY FRIENDLY ALL STAR SHOWDOWN

A family-friendly version of The Go Comedy! All-Star Showdown. Go Comedy!takes it's popular weekend show and makes it Family Friendly for everyone! The game show features a series of short improv games, challenges and more.

THE SKIT PARADE

Detroit has a long tradition of great sketch comedy. The Skit Parade is Go Comedy's latest contribution to that tradition. Each month Go Comedy! writers, performers, and directors put up a brand new sketch show for two performances only.

THE SUNDAY BUFFET

The best improv troupes in metro Detroit join the Go Comedy! launch group Hot Goldfor a great variety of the delicious long-form scenic improv. Troupes appearing in June:

TEN years of original comedy

In the fall of 2008 the former Ferndale Secretary of State office was transformed into Go Comedy! Improv Theater - a catalyst for hundreds of original shows, a robust improv academy, and an incubator for innovation, inspiration and integrity. This fall, the theater will celebrate its 10th anniversary and is home for hundreds of improvisers, at least 50 improv troupes, and a weekly schedule of hilarious award-winning programming that has garnered local and national recognition.
