Society for the Performing Arts' Announces Changes to 2017 – 2018 Season

Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) hopes that patrons and their loved ones were safe and sound during Hurricane Harvey. SPA knows that many have suffered terrible losses, and SPA staff members' hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey. SPA has been overwhelmed by the offerings of support and aid from colleagues and friends in Houston and artists throughout the nation. SPA thanks everyone for thinking about the company during this challenging time.

Due to flood damage from Hurricane Harvey, SPA has unavoidably cancelled MOMIX Opus Cactus (Friday, September 15, 2017) at Jones Hall, ODC/Dance The Velveteen Rabbit (September 21 - 23, 2017), Yekwon Sunwoo: 2017 Cliburn Gold Medal Winner (Thursday, September 28, 2017) at the Wortham Center's Cullen Theater. SPA is working with these artists in hopes to reschedule the performances in the next several months. SPA will keep patrons informed of any new developments concerning these performances.

SPA will postpone Penn & Teller from Friday October 13, 2017 to a later date in the 2017 - 2018 season, which is currently being evaluated. SPA will keep patrons informed when a new date has been determined.

Regrettably, SPA will also be cancelling the annual A Taste of SPA event, which was scheduled for October 11, 2017.

Flood damage to the Wortham Theater Center and Jones Hall for the Performing Arts is still being assessed, which is the cause of SPA's 2017 - 2018 season program changes. Despite these setbacks, SPA is working diligently to do what SPA has always done: uplift, inspire, and enrich the Houston community through top-notch presentations and programs. In light of this disaster, SPA believes that this mission is more important than ever. '

SPA's administrative and box office in Jones Hall for the Performing Arts will remain closed until further notice. SPA thanks everyone for understanding during this difficult time and looks forward to starting the 2017 - 2018 season as soon as possible.
