Return Engagements in Broadway RETURN ENGAGEMENTS
Runway Theatre
6/8-6/24/2018
It's 1954...a tipsy actress and a bellboy wind up their night of lovemaking, three hours before her wedding. It's 1956...a gutsy Polish woman who has chosen as her lover a carpenter "with good genes" informs him that she is returning to Poland to bear his child. It's 1963...a writer and a therapist, once partners in a prosaic marriage, await the arrival of their new prospective mates. Fast-forward 20, 25, and 30 years later as we revisit the couples and learn, much to our merriment, how they ended up and how, ultimately, their stories are all linked together. By Bernard Slade Rated PG-13.

Waitress in Broadway WAITRESS
Bass Performance Hall
6/19-6/24/2018
Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). "It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna. A waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life. "WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

Bright Star in Broadway BRIGHT STAR
Winspear Opera House
6/12-6/24/2018
From Grammy winners Steve Martin and Edie Brickell comes BRIGHT STAR, the new Broadway musical that "brings a fresh breeze to the spring theater season" (Charles Isherwood of The New York Times). Directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie and inspired by a real event, this "downright wonderful" (Newsday) original musical tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and '40s. Literary editor Alice Murphy's relationship with a young soldier just home from World War II awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past — and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. Propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies and powerfully moving performances. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tight in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful — and "Broadway's most beautiful show" (WABC).

The Producers in Broadway THE PRODUCERS
North Texas Performing Arts Repertory Theatre
6/22-6/30/2018
Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. The Producers sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!” Directed by Peg Waldschmidt.

The wealthy Baptista wants to find matches for his daughters. Suitors swarm around sweet Bianca, but temperamental older sister Katherina spurns any man who darkens her door. And in the end, the surprising love story dares to ask what roles we play . . . and, underneath, who we really are. Directed by Jenni Stewart.
