Waterbury, CT :The students of Waterbury Arts Magnet School are preparing a spring musical certain to please those who love musicals, and those who love classic 70s-era soul and funk music-- and it brings a unique vision of the classic story of The Wizard of Oz. On Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14 at 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm, The Wiz: the Super Soul Musical will be playing at the Palace Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and children. This version of The Wiz is unique: Dorothy starts out in rural Kansas, but when the tornado drops her in the strange and magical land of Oz-- that landscape will be very familiar to those in the Brass City and its region! OZ is Waterbury!Theater Teacher and Shows Director Zack Lehtinen:The vision for this show began with Munchkinland: I could see in my minds eye a particular, recognizable place right in the heart of Waterbury; as the creative collaboration and ideas expanded, locations throughout The Brass City-- from Holy Land to the dilapidated old factories, the grand clock tower, and the Palace Theater itself-- all became part of the landscape of our productions version of OZ.
