THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION BY AARON SORKIN
Powerhouse Theatre/Town Players of New Canaan
5/6-5/21/2016
It's 1929. Two ambitious visionaries race against each other to invent a device called "television." Separated by two thousand miles, each knows that if he stops working, even for a moment, the other will gain the edge. Who will unlock the key to the greatest innovation of the 20th century: the ruthless media mogul, or the self-taught Idaho farm boy? The answer comes to compelling life in The Farnsworth Invention, the new play from Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing, The Newsroom, and The Social Network. "Vintage Sorkin and crackling prime-time theater...breezy and shrewd, smart-alecky and idealistic." - Newsday "A firecracker of a play in a fittingly snap, crackle and pop production under the direction of Des McAnuff, the drama has among its many virtues the ability to make you think at the same time that it breaks your heart." - Chicago Sun-Times "The most exciting new play on Broadway...a rousing theatrical experience." - MTV News

FOR BETTER & FOR WORSE
AspenDream Productions Brownson Country Club
5/21-5/21/2016
You're Invited, But Please Don't Bring a Gift... Who says it’s not a real wedding? AspenDream Productions™ presents the Machiavelli’s and the Lambrusco’s in CT’s longest running interactive comedy Italian wedding- For Better & For Worse. This wedding has been called ‘The Saturday Night Live’ of wedding ceremonies. Meet the notorious “Uncle Franco” and his ex-wife Stella. Today they are giving their niece Donna away to ‘that bum’ Danny, the garbage man. But, the wedding of Danny & Donna is not your typical ceremony and reception. Mama Lambrusco has an ax to grind. No one is good enough for her son! This comedy wedding is a dinner-theater show in which you, the audience, take part. Your role is to be a guest at the wedding celebration of Danny Lambrusco and Donna Machiavelli. While Uncle Franco tries to keep the feuding relatives in line, family members like ‘Luigi the Squeegy’, Mario "One Minute" Mancini, and Sal Manilla cause more mischief by singing, mingling and dancing with your guests. Join these feuding families as you witness the vows, dance the night away and catch the bouquet. But be careful, there are a few uninvited guests. There is no comedy wedding show like it! Come crash the wedding!

YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU
Joel Barlow High School
5/20-5/22/2016
This classic comedy, written by George S Kaufman and Moss Hart, won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for drama and was recently revived on Broadway on 2014 with James Earl Jones in the leading role. Under the direction of Nancy Ponturo, this zany family will show you how much fun you can have when you have a grandpa that collects snakes, a mother who spends all day writing but never quite finishes a single story, a father who makes fireworks in the basement, and a sister who is an aspiring ballerina with unique talent. This is a house where you do as you like, and no questions are asked. Set in New York City in the late 1930's, the lovely young Alice Sycamore falls in love with the boss's son, Tony Kirby, and plans to marry him. But the Kirby family is quite serious and is aghast at the wacky behavior of the Sycamore family.

THE FOREIGNER
Two Planks Theater Company
5/13-5/22/2016
Winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production. An inspired comic romp, equal in inventive hilarity to the author’s classic comedy The Nerd, The Foreigner enjoyed a sold-out premiere before moving on to a long run Off-Broadway. Based on what the NY Post describes as a “devilishly clever idea,” the play demonstrates what can happen when a group of devious characters must deal with a stranger who (they think) knows no English.

DIRTY DANCING
Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts [Belding Theater]
5/24-5/29/2016
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage is an unprecedented live experience, exploding with heart-pounding music, passionate romance and sensational dancing. Seen by millions across the globe, this timeless love story features the hit songs "Hungry Eyes," "Hey Baby," "Do You Love Me?" and the heart-stopping "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life." London's Sunday Express says "This crowd-pleasing stage adaptation hits the jackpot!" It's the summer of 1963, and 17 year-old Frances "Baby" Houseman is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing. On vacation in New York's Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents, Baby shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters when an all-night dance party is in full swing. Mesmerized by the raunchy dance moves and the pounding rhythms, Baby can't wait to be part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle the resort dance instructor. Baby's life is about to change forever as she is thrown in at the deep end as Johnny's leading lady both on-stage and off with breathtaking consequences.
