BWW Review: 8th Annual Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon - There's No Place Like Dublin for the Perfect Race
Coming off last year's event with extreme heat and humidity which threatened the race, this year's OhioHealth Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon presented near perfect conditions as approximately 3,500 runners and walkers lined up at the new start line on Perimeter Drive in Dublin, Ohio. One of the best Half Marathons in the country, M3S Sports continues to set the bar in event planning, volunteers, on-course signage, aid stations, medical support, post-race party, and awesome finisher's medals.
The 6.55 and 13.1 mile routes went through the beautiful Glacier Ridge Metro Park and along the quiet streets of Dublin. There was plenty of support along the course, including cheers from friends and family members and Fleet Feet Sports/MIT pace and balloon teams. To keep participants well-hydrated, nine total Aid Stations and a Carb Boom Energy Gel Station were featured on the Half Marathon Course and four Aid Stations on the Quarter Marathon course. Kudos to the amazing volunteers who were so enthusiastic and helped runners every step of the way, from packet pickup to pre-race, to on-course, to the finish line festivities.
The free Post-Race Party was once again held at Amigos Mexican Restaurant, which featured complimentary Casamigos Margaritas (to participants ages 21 and over), appetizers, chips, salsa and guacamole. If you skipped the fiesta, you could still indulge in post-race food and drink right at the finish line, including bananas, Panera breads, Simple Truth Energy Bars, chocolate milk from Hartzler Family Dairy, and more. All finishers also received an Official Gender-Specific Event Shirt, coupons including a free 11 inch pizza from Dewey's Pizza, and the always impressive Official Finisher's Medal.
Top 3 overall males in the Half Marathon were Blake Wysocki (1:12:21), Nate King (1:14:23), and Joshua Cochran (1:16:12). Top 3 females in the Half Marathon category were Jennifer Gorham (1:28:11), Jennifer Creps (1:28:23), and Lisa Halley (1:29:47).
Top 3 overall males in the Quarter Marathon included Garrett Comstock (00:39:27), Zach Keyes (00:39:40), and Jamie Hart (00:41:13). Top 3 females in the Quarter Marathon were Tracy Keyes (00:43:20), Mie Adams (00:44:03), and Ashley Crosser (00:44:47).
Special shout-out to Courtney Bird of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who completed her 99th Half Marathon in 2017 (3:11:30) to attempt the World Record of 102 in a year. In addition, the Columbus Chapter of Team Red, White & Blue came out to support the OhioHealth Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon by carrying the U.S. flag across the finish line. Congrats to all!
