Summer Technical Staff - Attic Chamber Theatre

Attic Chamber Theatre (ACT) is seeking motivated and passionate theatre artists to fill staff and intern positions for our summer season.



Our 2019 summer season runs from May 19 to August 1, and includes Jeeves Intervenes, Enchanted April, and She Loves Me. A Summer season at ACT provides valuable opportunities for current students and beginning professionals via practical experience building shows, during the rehearsal process, and when running shows.



All paid positions offer a stipend, housing at The Fox Village, and reasonable travel expenses. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.

Technical Director

The Technical Director is responsible for constructing sets on time and within budget, coordinating the efforts of paid staff and volunteers, and to create acting spaces according to the Scenic Designers plans and the Director’s artistic vision.



The TD will coordinate working schedules with University of Wisconsin representatives. Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets.



Duties include purchasing construction materials, supervising the building of scenery, moving and mounting scenery and set pieces on the theater stage, overseeing the work of staff and volunteers, and maintaining the shop’s equipment and supplies. Must be able to read scale plans supplied by the scenic designer, assist the lighting director to hang and focus lights, load-in, load-out, and strike. Also work with Stage Manager to ensure actor/crew safety.



Experience required in standard scenic construction techniques, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and working knowledge of shop equipment and tools. Must be comfortable working on ladders and at heights, and work well as part of a team.



Theatre Technician

Under supervision, build and paint sets, hang and focus lighting instruments, and perform other duties as assigned. Experience in standard scenic construction and painting techniques, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a work knowledge of shop equipment and tools is required.



Must be comfortable working on ladders and at heights, and have ability to read and interpret scaled construction drawings, and work well as part of a team.



Stage Manager

Assist the Director in all facets of rehearsal as needed. Create and distribute rehearsal notes, and create a cast roster. Prepare a prompt script that contains blocking notations, light and sound cues, and scene shift requirements. Communicate and coordinate with technical staff on set, costume, and prop requirements. Create and distribute rehearsal notes, and create a cast roster.



Supervise light and sound board operators, and direct the run crew for shift changes. Run tech rehearsals, and call the show throughout the run of the show.
