Production Stage Supervisor - Skylight Music Theatre

POSITION TITLE: Production Stage Supervisor

(Alternate titles – Crew Head, Stage Crew Lead, Crew Chief, Deck Chief, Stage Supervisor, Stage Operations Manager)

REPORTS TO: Director of Production

START DATE: Immediately

POSITION: full-time salary with benefits package

(Summer releases may be available)



FUNCTION:

• Provide leadership in the safe and efficient operation of all backstage activities and crew for Skylight Music Theatre (SMT) productions and events housed in the Broadway Theatre Center (BTC).

• Assist the Production Director in implementing and maintaining the administrative and production functions of the production department and of the theatre/office facility.



RESPONSIBILITES:

• Serve as leader of the Stage Run Crews, consisting of staff, overhire, and apprentices, providing leadership, training and routine check-ins for the stage crew in all areas of stage operations including load-in, running shows, strike, storage and maintenance of scenery in a safe, efficient, and respectful manner.

• Attend all appropriate meetings and work calls as necessary, including but not limited to feasibility, production, departmental, staff meetings and load-ins, technical rehearsals, designer runs, dresses, and load-outs.

• Maintain working knowledge and understanding of the physical productions/events in the BTC, while directly overseeing the technical operation of all production elements and personnel involved.

• Determine storage of scenery and establish the most efficient means of assembling and changing over each show (when necessary) by organizing and maintaining a clean/safe working environment and operation of applicable areas.

• Hire additional run crew, crew subs, and overhire in consultation with management.

• Work with management to facilitate smooth running of shows and special events.

• Maintain theatre inventories and documenting expenditures in concert with management.

• Conduct routine safety checks in concert with management and ensure that policies and practices of SMT’s Health and Safety Manual are being followed and adhered to, both written and oral.

• Other duties as assigned.



SKILLS AND TRAINING:

• A BA in theatre or comparable professional experience, with training in technical theatre including but not limited to scenic and properties construction, theatrical rigging, video/projections, electrics, and sound.

• Ability/Willingness to collaborate, work as a team member, and/or supervise, while maintaining a positive attitude with a diverse staff through strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work on varied projects, whether physical or administrative.

• Have knowledge and understanding of basic budget and schedule practices in regional theatre.

• Comprehensive training of a variety of construction methods, materials and techniques including wood, fabric, metal and plastics and working knowledge in the safe operation of stationary and portable power tools, hand tools, stage rigging and equipment.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift 60 lbs, and able to climb and work from ladders.

• Must have the vision, hearing and dexterity to safely operate in a construction environment, operate hand and power tools, stage rigging and fine detailing work if necessary.

• Ability to read and execute blueprints and schematics.

• This position has irregular hours with regular night and weekend responsibilities.
