Listing Information: DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTIONThe Huntington Theatre Company seeks a Director of Production at this pivotal point in its history, having recently announced a major renovation to the Huntington Avenue Theatre, and charted an independent course following its longtime relationship with Boston University. The Director of Production will have an influential leadership role in the evolution of the Huntington and its continued presence as a cultural leader in the region. They will lead a team including Production Management, Stage Management, Lighting and Electrics, Sound, Scenery, Properties, and Costumes. The Director of Production will drive the strategy to leverage production capacity to earn revenue from outside project work. Reports to Managing Director Michael Maso and Artistic Director, Peter DuBois. Job Duties:Supervises the personnel, budgets, and work activities of the following departments: Production Management, Stage Management, Scenery, Properties, Costumes, Electrics, Stage Operations, and Sound.Supervises all resources including technical equipment, facilities, performance and rehearsal spaces, vehicles, materials and supplies for the Production Department. Plans logistics for the movement of the Huntington Theatre Company productions to other venues and other productions to the Huntington Theatre Company.Develops, maintains, and administers the annual Production Budget. Monitors all Production Budgets and controls specific budgets for Production Management.Oversees and coordinates production department?s revenue producing activities, through non-Huntington builds and rentals.Manages Technical Equipment acquisition, maintenance, and rental, capital improvement, vehicle maintenance, department travel, scenery and equipment storage, departmental supplies.Works to improve and ensure high quality production values which includes attending technical and dress rehearsals, note sessions, meetings, and preview performances.Serves as the final decision maker in Production staff issues including hiring, dismissal and disciplinary actions in consultation with Human Resources, where appropriate.Oversees schedules for the Huntington Theatre Company productions.Understands and communicates effectively the artistic vision of the Huntington Theatre Company. Collaborates with Directors, designers and the artistic staff to ensure adherence to show schedules. Keeps the Artistic Director and Managing Director informed regarding the progress of designs and deadlines. Facilitates interdepartmental communication and communication between artists and Production personnel.Consults with the Managing Director, General Manager, Director of Theatre Operations, Director of Finance, and Director of Human Resources to develop and strategize long range Huntington Theatre Company needs, including theatre renovation design.Oversees interdepartmental cooperation aiding special theatre functions and projects as necessary. Serves as or appoints primary safety committee contact for Production Department. Requirements:Degree: B.A. Theatre preferred.5+ years? experience in Production Management or equivalent work experience.Extensive knowledge of theatrical production.Strong leadership skills; able to engage and motivate a team.Experience creating and proactively managing Production budget, including both revenue generation and expense management. Ability to create and manage complex production schedules.Able to attend to numerous important projects concurrently, and to prioritize, and respond positively and effectively in meeting strict deadlines. An outgoing, confident personal style with a highly developed sense of humor and excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
