Development Apprenticeship - Eugene O'Neill Theater Center

LISTING INFORMATION

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s Development Apprentice, reporting to the Director of Development, is responsible for day-to-day operational support, ensuring seamless operation of activities, mailings, communications, and business functions within the department. In addition, he/she will be responsible for oversight of a broad series of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship programs, particularly Annual Fund and Membership, to inform and engage existing donors and prospects, encourage sustained and increased giving, and broaden the organization's circle of supporters.



This position also supports the National Theater Institute, with apprentice duties that include student on-call responsibilities, transportation support, and other duties as assigned.



Start Date: August 30, 2017

End Date: August 18, 2018



Donor and Patron Management (50%):

Serve as point-of-contact relating to questions from donors and constituents regarding their support for the O’Neill.

Implement annual membership and Annual Fund plans, ensuring timely creation of content, communications, and collateral.

Lead support for donor mailings, appeals and event invitation mailings, including printing and collating of appropriate materials, writing and securing approval for appeal letters, and coordination/execution of in-house mailings.

Produce regular activity and analysis reports on the status of contributions and fund-raising efforts vs. performance goals to help Development Team members target their efforts for maximum effectiveness.

Processing of donations into donor database on a daily basis.

Ongoing stewardship of member and tracking of benefits across all membership programs at the O’Neill, including advance ticket orders, welcome materials, etc in donor database

Acknowledgement of all contributions to the O’Neill, including through the Annual Fund, Membership, Special Event, and Foundation donors.

Maintaining and filing hard-copy records of relevant donor information, including check copies, acknowledgement letters, cultivation notes, etc as per O’Neill records policies.

Ongoing maintenance of donor records in donor database, including updating relevant donor address and contact info, gift information, etc, importing of individual records.

Collaboration with Box Office during summer months to ensure proper stewardship of member benefits.

Ensure regular communication and stewardship of O’Neill donors.

Experience with PatronManager is a plus.



Special Events (25%):

On-site support (registration, auctions, etc.) for all development related events, including donor cultivation receptions, fundraising galas, alumni receptions, etc as assigned by Special Events Manager.

Participation in event related planning and implementation.

Timely acknowledgement of event attendees, auction donors and participants, etc.



Other (25%):

Importing and exporting of relevant reports and lists of constituents as assigned.

Ongoing reconciliation of gifts received with the Business Office, and as needed in preparation for year-end and board meeting reporting.

Intern duties as assigned.

Other administrative duties as assigned by senior-level staff.



Skills:

Organizational skills – Strong capacity for organization, keeping sensitive donor information secure and filed appropriately.

Prioritization – Should be able to balance multiple projects simultaneously, using judgment to determine priorities.

Customer Service – Interfacing with O’Neill constituents with a focus on excellent customer service and stewardship.



Attributes:

Independent Worker – Intern should be able to work independently without the need for constant direction.

Discretion – The O’Neill has many successful and notable alumni and donors. Development Intern is expected to be respectful and represent the O’Neill in such interactions.

Results-oriented – Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, results oriented environment.
