LISTING INFORMATION

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) seeks a Deck Chief to join the Stage Operations team. This position will maintain the quality and integrity of stage, set, and prop elements for STC productions, presentations, and rentals, and will sustain a working understanding of the theatre, its procedures, and its equipment. Job functions will include: serving as lead run crew for STC productions, outside rentals, and special events as assigned by the Stage Operations Supervisor; maintaining pre- and post-show set up; maintaining quality and function of scenic and prop elements on a daily basis with special attention to the safety of weapons; executing and maintaining all pyrotechnics, automation and special effects in the manner directed by the Stage Operations Supervisor; participating in all emergencies and evacuation procedures as outlined by STC policy; and assisting with load-in, strike, and material transfers from shop to theatres.



The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre or equivalent professional experience with an additional three years of experience working backstage in a theatre. Experience with rigging, scenic construction, furniture repair, props, scenic painting, automated scenery, pyrotechnics, and crew leadership is preferred, in addition to the understanding and application of safe backstage practices. The employee must be able to lift +75 pounds unaided and have a full range of motion, as well as a valid driver's license and clean driving record in order to operate company vehicles. As the position involves the running of shows and outside events, the employee will often work evening and weekend hours, and may potentially work over 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, seasonal position with excellent benefits.
