Associate Production Manager, CoPA - The New School

The Associate Production Manager, CoPA is directly responsible for supporting the Director of Production Management, Vice Dean for Production & College of Performing Arts Deans in all areas of production and facilities as assigned throughout the College of Performing Arts.



The CoPA production department oversees all Drama Mainstage productions, Operas, Ensemble Concerts, experimental productions, external performance partnerships and musicals. This position is a part of a team of managers and departments heads who work to produce these productions yearly. The Associate Production Manager will play a key role in supporting the production office operations and administration.



The Associate Production Manager reports directly to the Director of Production Management, CoPA. This is a full-time, 12-month position with access to the full-time employee benefits package offered by The New School.



Responsibilities:

- Support budget development, financial record keeping for assigned projects

- Submit payroll for production staff on assigned projects

- Process invoices and contracts for payment in coordination with Finance department

- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and supervision of production staff and designers for assigned projects as needed

- Contract external performance or rehearsal space as necessary

- Responsible for ongoing maintenance and organization of all classroom supplies

- Solicit bids on capital projects, classroom furniture, and production resources as assigned

- Schedule and help to facilitate design and production meetings on assigned projects

- Attend required run-throughs, technical rehearsals, and dress rehearsals as assigned

- Provide supervision for load-ins and strikes as assigned

- Act as lead production manager on assigned projects in the School of Drama, Mannes School of Music, and School of Jazz & Contemporary Music.

- Help to facilitate auditions for assigned projects

- Mentor student directors, designers, playwrights, actors & musicians through the creative and production process on assigned projects

- Room scheduling in coordination with production, academic & university teams (CoPA Rooms, 25Live)

- Flexible hours as needed based on project assignments

- Other duties as assigned



- Three plus years previous experience in production management, stage management, and/or arts administration is required.

- Specific experience in opera or theatre production or stage management required

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

- Interpersonal skills that allow the individual to function in a variety of settings among widely different groups of people

- A unique combination of creative and analytical talents

- The ability to work productively and graciously under strict time constraints

- Experience producing events/productions in a leadership role

- Flexibility, and a “team player” sensibility

- Working understanding of the operations of carpentry/rigging; lighting; sound; carpentry/props; costumes.

- Ability to read ground plans and light plots



- Experience in an educational or teaching environment

- At least 2 years working in a production management office
