2019 Summer Season Positions - Cape Playhouse

LISTING INFORMATION

The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA - the theatre where Broadway goes to summer - is currently looking to fill the following positions for our 2019 Summer Season which includes productions of The Importance of Being Earnest, Little Shop of Horrors, Once, A Chorus Line, Noises Off and Deathtrap.

Wardrobe Supervisor

The wardrobe supervisor will work with Broadway designers for each show, providing support for each design, plus oversee dressers - costumes are procured and fitted in NYC during rehearsals. Responsibilities include alterations, costume maintenance, laundering/dry cleaning, maintaining dressing rooms, dressing performers before and during performances, coordinating the receiving and returning of costume packages, maintaining wardrobe work space. Essential are communication and interpersonal skills, sewing (regular and industrial machine), ironing, altering, laundering, leading crews, and makeup skills. Must be organized, tactful, completely self-reliant, and detail oriented in a fast-paced environment. Position runs from late May to early September. Weekly salary plus housing walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Carpenter

The candidates must have an understanding of scenic construction, desire to learn new skills, and ability to carry a 4X8 sheet of plywood alone. The carpenters will contribute heavily to the building, installing, and striking of each set throughout the season - and may be required to be on the run crew of the bigger shows, depending on need. Applicants should have two years shop experience, and familiarity with reading both hand-drafted and CAD drawings. Desired, but not necessary: MIG welding, drafting, tool maintenance, and theatrical rigging (hemp house especially). Position runs from mid-May to early Sept. Weekly salary plus housing walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Electrician

The candidate is responsible for running and maintaining the current show, while also prepping the upcoming production, along with the master electrician. Responsibilities include a re-patch, re-color, and full electrics swap within a show plot and maintenance of rental equipment. The electrician often programs the console during tech, while assisting with an electrics crew. The electrician will often run the console for all mainstage shows. Position runs from late May to early September. Competitive salary, plus private housing that is walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Sound Engineer/Designer

This candidate will be responsible for installing and striking rental sound package at the top and bottom of the season, reconfiguring the system to meet the needs of each show, and running soundboard for each performance of the Mainstage shows. Based on the experience of the engineer, the position also has the opportunity to serve as the Sound Designer on the MainStage productions. Strong communication skills are essential, as a dialogue must exist with both the production and artistic staffs. Position runs from late May to early September. Weekly salary plus housing walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Props Master

The ideal candidate for this position will have the opportunity to showcase the range and depth of his/her skill set. The job will require research, sourcing items and purchasing (locally, online), borrowing, renting, furniture upholstery, hand props, independent set dressing, and building of props. Our facility includes an extensive collection of all manner of properties stored onsite. This is a great opportunity for creative, inventive and driven property artisans. The applicant must be able to manage time, forecast need, and plan lead-time for hard to find items. Candidate must have a willingness to work long hours to complete each show. Applicant should ideally have a car for work use - mileage reimbursed. Position runs from late May to late August. Weekly salary plus housing walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Technical Director

The Technical Director will serve on the senior staff of The Playhouse and must have at least two years of experience as a TD or comparable position. The candidate must have an expert level understanding of scenic construction. Along with you, the carpenters will contribute heavily to the building, installing, and striking of each set throughout the season - and may be required to be on the run crew of the bigger shows, depending on need. Applicants should have two years experience, and the ability to read both hand-drafted and CAD drawings. Desired, but not necessary: MIG welding, drafting, tool maintenance, and theatrical rigging (hemp house especially). Car ideal. Position runs from mid-May to early Sept. Weekly salary plus housing walkable distance to both the theatre and the beach.



Production Manager

The Production Manager is one of the chief staff members and leaders of production operations. He/she coordinates, manages, and oversees all stage events and productions. He/she is also responsible for management and coordination of rehearsal spaces, scenic and costume shop facilities. He/she advises the Artistic Director on general and technical production needs.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Supervise all production staff including, but not limited to: technical staff, electricians, carpenters, stage managers, production assistants, wardrobe personnel, props, running crew, interns, and any additional personnel required for specific production needs;

- Manage resource calendars for all shared facility spaces. Schedule all design and production meetings. Coordinate pre-season scenic and costume construction and oversee the bid process for scenic and/or costume needs not built in-house;

- Oversee technical preparations in coordination with Technical Director, including evaluation of and arrangement for equipment / tool needs and repairs;

- Oversee and coordinate all productions needs for Lighting, Costume, Scenic, Wigs/Makeup and Audio Designers, as well as all department heads;

- Coordinate load-in and restore of performance;

Coordinate post-season strike and storage needs



QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS

- 3+ Years Experience as a Production Manager, working in professional opera and/or theater;

- Computer proficient (MS word, Excel, Vectorworks, internet file sharing);

- Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges;

- Well-developed communication skills;

- Maturity and understanding of the artistic process and excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills;

- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment;

- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a production environment;

- Technical knowledge of safe working procedures, safety equipment and products for the stage;

- Extensive knowledge of theater techniques and processes, including safety standards;

- Strong verbal, quantitative, and organizational skills;

- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail;

- Able to work nights and weekends during the season, as required, climb stairs and ladders, lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance, and engage in other physical work related to the position;



Driver's License required. Car ideal.
