What is an Apprentice

Local One apprenticeship can provide an opportunity to be trained in all aspects of the industry. With apprenticeships in theatres, television studios, and shops, not only do our apprentices receive hands-on training with some of the most cutting-edge technology in the business, they get to work side by side with Local One members learning crafts that have been at the forefront of our Union for 137 years. Additionally, there is ongoing opportunities to expand your education and skillset through our TET Fund classes.

To qualify for an apprenticeship within Local One, candidates must take a basic skills assessment test and place within the top 25 scores.

Local One IATSE Apprenticeships are full time positions in theatres, sound and lighting shops, television studios, or scenic fabrication shops lasting 2 to 3 years and culminating with full membership status.
Apprentices are placed at a given job site, and work full time (subject to the site's specific schedule) for 2 to 3 years, after which they earn full membership status. Placements are based strictly on sequential order.
Employers are located throughout Local One IATSE's jurisdiction (Manhattan, Westchester, Nassau & Suffolk Counties, and The Bronx).
