THE UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD BAND FROM WASHINGTON, DC

  The United States Army Field Band has been connecting with Americans and thrilling audiences of all ages for more than 75 years. As the premier touring musical representative of the United States Army, this internationally-acclaimed organization’s mission is to develop positive connections at home and abroad on behalf of the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the United States through live music and multimedia performances, media, television productions, and emergent technologies.  The Field Band has appeared in all 50 states and in more than 30 countries on four continents. The organization’s five performing components, the Concert Band, Soldiers’ Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, Commercial Music Group, and Six String Soldiers, each tour extensively. Tours include formal public concerts, school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Represent the U.S. Army and the United States of America during musical outreach missions in the U.S. and abroad
  • Position requires a minimum 4-year enlistment — the candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to enlistment
  • Other duties as required in service to the organization

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional performance level
  • Proficiency in various musical styles
  • Ability to meet Army height/weight standards and maintain a generally fit appearance
  • Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age or up to 42 with a waiver
  • U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder)

STARTING SALARY:

  • Up to $80,000 (Army rank of Staff Sergeant)

BENEFITS:

  • 30 days paid vacation annually

  • Permanent assignment at Fort Meade, Maryland, in the Washington, DC area
  • Post Exchange and Commissary privileges

PROCESS:

Follow the link to a specific vacancy for application instructions.  Applicants selected from screening of materials will be invited for a personal audition and interview.  Travel expenses will be paid upon meeting the U.S. Army’s aptitude, physical, and behavioral standards.  Military personnel must submit a Soldier Talent Profile or equivalent, an Intent to Release memorandum from their unit Commander, and be eligible for permanent change of station.

Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter concerning eligibility.
